LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On, the three major battery companies in South Korea, will showcase innovative technologies and products at the country's largest battery exhibition, 'InterBattery 2025,' held from May 5 to 7 at Seoul COEX.
LG Energy Solution will unveil the next-generation cylindrical battery known as the '46 series' for the first time at InterBattery 2025. The 46 series is a cylindrical battery with a diameter of 46 mm, which is evaluated as a next-generation battery, enhancing energy and output by at least five times compared to the existing 2170 (21 mm in diameter and 70 mm in height) battery. LG Energy Solution released a teaser video of the 46 series on its official YouTube and LINKED channels on the 23rd.
LG Energy Solution will also display the solar mobility vehicle of the U.S. electric vehicle startup 'Aptera Motors,' in which its battery will be installed.
Samsung SDI will showcase the 'No-TP' technology for thermal propagation prevention, which has recently completed commercialization review, at InterBattery 2025. No-TP is a technology that physically prevents heat from propagating to other cells by using safety materials installed between cells when an issue occurs in a specific cell of a battery product. Through its proprietary thermal propagation performance prediction program (TPc), Samsung SDI allows for optimal structural design for thermal propagation prevention from the product planning stage.
Samsung SDI will also introduce the development status of the all-solid-state battery (ASB), referred to as the 'dream battery.' With a goal of commercializing the all-solid-state battery by 2027, Samsung SDI supplied samples to several customers for evaluation at the end of last year.
SK On will exhibit all three major battery form factors: pouch, prismatic, and cylindrical, aiming to target a variety of customers. In particular, SK On will unveil a real model of its cylindrical battery for the first time at InterBattery 2025. SK On is accelerating its research and development efforts after completing the cylindrical pilot line in the second half of last year.
It will also showcase the high-voltage mid-nickel battery, which has recently gained attention. Mid-nickel batteries are products with nickel content of 50% to 70% in nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries, making them price-competitive and noteworthy amid a slowdown in electric vehicle demand.
