Mercedes-Benz Korea announced on the 13th that it will launch the high-performance variant of the G-Class sport utility vehicle (SUV), 'The New Mercedes-AMG G 63.'
The Mercedes-AMG G 63 was first unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The newly launched version features ▲ a 48V mild hybrid system ▲ touch display and MBUX augmented reality navigation ▲ a redesigned off-road cockpit and transparent hood ▲ a comfort package that includes keyless entry.
'The New Mercedes-AMG G 63' will also be launched in the MANUFAKTUR model. The selling price for 'The New Mercedes-AMG G 63' is 249 million won, while the MANUFAKTUR model is priced at 275 million won.
The vehicle's exterior retains the design of the existing G-Class while equipping a new AMG exclusive grille with three vertical louvers in front of the air intake. It also comes standard with intelligent adaptive multi-beam LED headlights that feature 84 high-performance LEDs, which can be individually controlled to illuminate the road according to traffic conditions.
In addition, it features an AMG fuel filler cap made of silver chrome with black design elements, red brake calipers, and 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke lightweight alloy wheels. The MANUFAKTUR model comes with black brake calipers and 22-inch AMG multi-spoke lightweight alloy wheels.
'The New G 63' offers the most diverse exterior color portfolio among Mercedes-Benz vehicles, with 39 exterior paint options. It also provides up to 37 leather options, allowing customers to mix and match according to their preferences and individuality.
'The New G 63's' AMG 4.0-liter V8 bi-turbo gasoline engine delivers a maximum output of 585 horsepower and a peak torque of 86.7 kgf·m, and is equipped with an AMG Speedshift TCT 9-speed transmission. The newly applied 48V mild hybrid system and integrated starter generator (ISG) provide an additional 20 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The adaptive suspension helps reduce body movements during driving, facilitating both comfortable on-road and dynamic off-road driving.
Additionally, AMG Dynamic Select allows for adjustments to the engine, transmission, suspension, and steering responses. It offers five on-road programs (slippery, comfort, sport, sport+, and individual) for comfortable to sporty driving and three off-road driving programs: sand, trail, and rock.
The interior features an AMG performance steering wheel made of nappa leather. Through the AMG steering wheel buttons, the driver can intuitively control driving programs that include AMG-specific functions. The vehicle is also equipped with the second-generation MBUX infotainment system, providing a 12.3-inch touchscreen driver and media display and MBUX augmented reality navigation.
New digital features have also been added. The transparent hood provides a full view, including a virtual view of the lower front of the vehicle that the driver cannot see, helping to easily identify obstacles ahead during off-road driving. Additionally, the off-road cockpit is newly designed around three differential lock switches, providing an overview of data suitable for off-road driving and driving assistance features on the display.
Convenience features have also been enhanced. The comfort package includes keyless entry and wireless charging for mobile devices in the front seats, along with the Burmester 3D surround sound system and Dolby Atmos audio system. In addition, various convenience features such as the latest driving assistance package, heated steering wheel and heated windscreen, Energizing Package Plus, Active Multicontour Seat Package Plus, and ambient lighting are provided as standard.
