Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation announced on the 11th that it signed a contract for the ‘Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation-type generative artificial intelligence (AI) construction project’ with Naver Cloud and Bespin Global at the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Radiation Health Center in Seoul, and began the AI construction project.
Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation plans to train the nuclear power plant data on Naver Cloud's super-large language model, ‘Hyperclova X,’ install it in an internal data center separated from external networks, and operate specialized AI services using Bespin Global’s chatbot service, ‘HelpNow AI.’ It is the world's first specialized super-large generative AI for nuclear power plants.
Generally, super-large language model services like ChatGPT and Copilot are provided through public cloud networks, but Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation decided to construct it internally as the first public institution in Korea due to the importance of data security.
Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation plans to launch the Hyperclova X service internally in March next year, allowing employees to freely utilize the generative AI's general functions such as document summarization and translation on the internal work network. By July, the organization aims to complete data training and provide services in seven business areas, including nuclear power construction, generation, maintenance, safety, hydropower/renewables, external agency responses, and AI assistants, to enhance work productivity.
Hwang Joo-ho, president of Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation, said, “By introducing AI systems into the nuclear power industry, which requires strict regulations and quality, we will further enhance nuclear safety and efficiency. We expect that through this project with Naver Cloud and Bespin Global, Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Corporation will secure differentiated global competitiveness in the nuclear power sector.”
