Toss announced today that it will officially launch the 'mobile identification card' service starting from the 23rd.
The mobile identification card is an ID that can be securely stored on an individual's smartphone and used in both online and offline settings, possessing the same legal validity as a physical ID. Toss was selected as a 'private sector participant in mobile identification card opening' organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last June and has developed the system to introduce the service this time.
The mobile identification cards that can be issued by Toss include ▲ resident registration card ▲ driver's license ▲ state veterans registration certificate ▲ foreign registration card, totaling four types, which can be used for various identification purposes needed in daily life, such as real-name verification, adult verification, and identity confirmation. In particular, Toss provides a consistent user experience and convenience by supporting both Android and iOS operating systems, regardless of the user's smartphone environment.
Users can easily obtain a mobile identification card through a simple authentication process in the Toss app. By selecting the 'ID·Certification' menu from the 'All' tab at the bottom of the app or by entering 'mobile identification card' in the search bar, and then proceeding with entering the resident registration number and password → authenticating with a physical IC ID → facial recognition, the card will be issued immediately. The issued ID can be quickly and conveniently used from the Toss home screen.
In the future, Toss plans to expand the scope of mobile identification cards to include mobile disability registration cards, and is committed to creating an offline life where authentication and payments can be made without a physical card by integrating its facial recognition-based authentication and easy payment services, FacePass and FacePay.
A Toss representative noted, "It is meaningful to proactively secure qualifications for mobile identification cards, following electronic signature certification providers and identity verification agencies," and added, "We will continually advance so that all users can safely and conveniently use mobile identification cards, regardless of the operating system."
