Toss announced on the 27th that it has developed its own app accessibility auto-diagnostic tool called 'Ally.'

Ally detects with a single click whether 'alternative text' that describes images or 'labels' that guide icon and button functions are missing from the development code. It helps visually impaired individuals effectively use assistive technology called 'screen reader' to hear the app screen content. In fact, since the introduction of Ally, developers have been able to detect and fix about 100 accessibility errors per hour in advance. Toss expects that Ally will enhance accessibility to financial services for visually impaired individuals.

Transfer previously involved accessibility consultants manually checking errors and relaying improvement measures. However, now developers are able to check and resolve basic accessibility issues before the service is launched. Through this, Toss has simplified the service improvement process and established a structure that can consistently apply accessibility across all services.

The name 'Ally' is derived from the industry abbreviation 'a11y,' which stands for 'Accessibility.' Toss plans to faithfully implement its vision of 'easy and convenient finance for everyone' through Ally. It also seems that an internal culture where developers and experts closely collaborate to improve accessibility will be established.

In the second half of the year, Toss plans to further enhance the diagnostic scope of Ally and transparently share related technologies and improvement cases on the Toss Tech blog. A Toss official noted, 'Ally is a tool developed based on the inconveniences and voices I heard by directly meeting visually impaired users,' and added, 'We will continue our technical and cultural efforts so that everyone can use financial services without restrictions.'

Toss is strengthening inclusive design centered around its dedicated accessibility organization, the 'Universal Design Team,' and is also operating the 'Accessibility News' feature within the Toss app.
