Lee Seung-yong, the head of the large venture capital (VC) Atinum Investment, is creating a fund in Singapore to invest in domestic VCs. He aims to serve as a bridge between capital from Southeast Asia, including Singapore, and Korean VCs through the fund of funds.

According to the investment bank (IB) industry on the 23rd, Atinum Partners is currently forming a fund of funds that invests in Korean VCs in Singapore and is reportedly nearing its first closing.

Atinum Partners is a personal investment company belonging to Chairman Lee Min-joo, the largest shareholder holding 33% of the equity in the listed Atinum Investment. While Atinum Investment is a company that raises external investment to form a blind fund, Atinum Partners invests using its own capital. Both Atinum Investment and Atinum Partners are led by CEO Lee Seung-yong, who is the son-in-law of Chairman Lee.

The name of the Atinum Singapore fund is 'Atinum Ventures Pte. Ltd.' Atinum Partners has been forming funds of funds solely with its own capital, but it has recently secured one external investor and is said to be approaching its first closing.

The Atinum Singapore fund is reported to be continuing meetings to invest in domestic VCs' venture funds. The practical work is being handled by Managing Director Oh Joon-seok of Atinum Partners.

Among the houses that have received investments from the Atinum Singapore fund recently is Company K Partners. Company K recently formed an AI fund worth 122 billion won, of which 7 billion won was invested by the Atinum Singapore fund. The Atinum Singapore fund has reportedly set a principle to keep its investment amount below 10% of each fund's formation amount.

With the recent external funds secured, the Atinum Singapore fund plans to continue increasing its size and expand its investments in Korean VCs.

An official from the IB industry said, 'I understand that there is significant demand from major players in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, to invest in the Korean startup market,' adding, 'Nevertheless, many have been unable to seize investment opportunities due to a lack of information as they do not have offices in Korea, and Atinum Partners is looking to develop a new revenue model in that gap.'
