American Express (Amex) has launched the exclusive 'original black card', available only to a mere 0.001% of the global population, including figures like Bill Gates and U.S. President Donald Trump, in a domestic exclusive deal through Hyundai Card.
This card, with an annual fee of 7 million won, can only be issued through an invitation after a rigorous application process, and cardholders receive dedicated concierge services that include recommendations and reservations for hotels, airlines, travel, shopping, culture, and fine dining worldwide.
Hyundai Card announced on the 19th via product disclosure that it has released the Amex Black 'Centurion Card', considered the highest grade of premium cards globally. A Hyundai Card official noted, "We have launched the Amex Centurion," but added, "We cannot provide further details about the product."
The Centurion Card, first issued in 1999, features a black background plate with the symbol of Amex, the Roman military commander known as 'Centurion', engraved in gold. While the Centurion Card has been issued in other Asian countries such as Japan and Hong Kong, this is the first time it has been issued in Korea. The card is only issued in over 30 countries worldwide.
Consideration for wealth, status, social influence, and value ensures that invitations are issued solely to a very small number of customers. It is known to be used by individuals such as President Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Ariana Grande, and Jay-Z. In Korea, it is reportedly used by IU and BLACKPINK's Lisa. The annual fee for a family card is also 2 million won.
Members can enjoy personalized concierge services through the Centurion Card. This includes special benefits through partnerships with global hotel chains, recommendations for fine dining restaurants both domestic and overseas, as well as arrangements for renowned exhibitions, performances, events, activities, and transportation services such as private jets and car rentals.
