KB Securities analyzed that the stock price of KEPCO E&C has surged as the small modular reactor (SMR) market accelerates in the United States.

The American SMR corporation Oklo noted on the 11th that it has received approval from the Ministry of National Defense for the installation of a small reactor at an Alaskan Air Force base. Oklo plans to install a 75 MW SMR to supply power to the Air Force base. There are analyses suggesting that the SMR commercialization policy led by U.S. President Donald Trump is becoming a reality.

There are also suggestions that the SMR market may grow in Korea depending on the direction of the new government's energy policy.

Researcher Jeong Hye-jeong at KB Securities said, "Considering this government’s pledges, they are maintaining the policy to install new large nuclear power plants and SMRs with a capacity of 0.7 GW as confirmed in the 11th basic plan for power supply and demand," and noted, "However, more proactive policies are needed to expand Korean-style SMRs."

Expectations related to existing nuclear power projects have emerged as well. KEPCO is responsible for the design of the nuclear power project in Dukovany, Czech Republic.

Researcher Jeong said, "The contract for KEPCO E&C in the Czech nuclear power project is expected to occur by the end of this year or next year," and analyzed, "The scale of the design sector contract could be larger than the 760 billion won contract in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)."
