A total of 1,190 companies listed on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets paid out 32.2946 trillion won in dividends last year. This represents an increase of 9.6% (2.8235 trillion won) from 2023.
The Korea Securities Depository noted on the 5th that this was the result of aggregating dividend data for corporations with a settlement of account in December. The dividend amount for the KOSPI market was 30.021 trillion won, a 9.2% increase compared to 2023. During the same period, the dividend amount for the KOSDAQ market jumped by 15.1% to 2.2925 trillion won.
The largest dividend payout in the KOSPI market was by Kia, which distributed a total of 2.5589 trillion won. It was followed by ▲Samsung Electronics 2.4543 trillion won ▲Hyundai Motor 1.5664 trillion won ▲SK hynix 900.2 billion won ▲Samsung Life Insurance 808.1 billion won.
In the KOSDAQ market, HPSP was the top payer with 482 billion won in dividends. It was followed by ▲LEENO Industrial 455 billion won ▲RedcapTour 334 billion won ▲GOLFZON 240 billion won ▲CAREGEN 195 billion won.
By shareholder type, institutional investors received 13.4121 trillion won (41.6%) in dividends, the highest share. Foreigners received 9.7951 trillion won (30.3%), while individuals received 9.0874 trillion won (28.1%).
By age group of individual investors, those in their 50s and 60s received 2.9650 trillion won (32.6%) and 2.3192 trillion won (25.5%) in dividends, respectively. This accounted for 58.1% of the total dividends paid to individual investors. Following them were ▲70s 1.7630 trillion won (19.4%) ▲40s 1.3518 trillion won (14.9%) ▲30s 460.9 billion won (5.1%) ▲20s 114.1 billion won (1.3%).
By nationality of foreign investors, Americans received 4.2457 trillion won in dividends, accounting for 43.3% of the total foreign dividend payout. Other amounts included ▲United Kingdom 1.053 billion won (10.8%) ▲Luxembourg 555.5 billion won (5.7%) ▲Singapore 545.2 billion won (5.6%) ▲Ireland 463.4 billion won (4.7%).
