The Financial Services Commission appointed Kwon Yu-ee (48), Director of the Industrial Finance Division, as the new Director of the Financial Policy Division. This is the first time a woman has been selected as the head of the Financial Policy Division. Director Kwon's husband is Kim Hee-jae (50), Director of the International Finance Division at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, meaning the couple is now leading the practical responsibilities for domestic financial policy and international financial policy.
The two are classmates from the 45th National Civil Service Examination. Their relationship began at a training center, leading to their marriage. Directors Kim and Kwon started their public service careers in the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the predecessor to the Financial Services Commission and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Following the restructuring in 2008, when the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Ministry of Planning and Budget were reorganized into the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Financial Services Commission, they became part of different departments.
Director Kwon was the first woman to serve as the Chief Secretary for Financial Policy at the Financial Services Commission and held the position of Director in charge of policy finance, which includes the Industrial Bank of Korea and the Korea Development Bank. Director Kim has been serving as the Director of the International Finance Division since February after previously serving as the Director of Foreign Currency Funds in the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The Financial Policy Division, which Director Kwon is now leading, is referred to as 'the flower of the Financial Services Commission.' It is a key department that oversees domestic financial policy matters, including managing household debt and household loans, as well as supervising the Financial Supervisory Service, an affiliate of the Financial Services Commission.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok, Yim Jong-ryong, former Chairman of Woori Financial Group and former Chair of the Financial Services Commission, People Power Party member Choo Kyung-ho, former Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Joong-kyung (currently Ambassador for International Investment Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and former Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hun-jae all previously served as Director of the Financial Policy Division.
