The government decided to allow the import of chicken produced in areas of Brazil where avian influenza (AI) has not occurred, leading to a decline in poultry-related stocks.
MANIKER shares traded at 1,084 won on the KOSPI market at 11:30 a.m. on the 23rd, down 6.07% (70 won) from the previous day. At the same time, Harim shares also fell 2% (65 won) to 3,185 won.
Bom Kim, acting Minister of Economy and Finance, chaired the 46th meeting on inflation affairs and said, "We will allow chicken imports from areas in Brazil where avian influenza (AI) has not occurred, and we will make efforts to expand domestic supply and diversify import sources."
The government decided to quickly advance administrative procedures, including risk assessments, until the resumption of imports, as major importers have about 2 to 3 months' worth of inventory remaining. It also decided to implement measures such as temporarily extending the production deadline for poultry under 64 weeks old.
