ALMAC, a corporation specializing in automotive aluminum parts, noted that its subsidiary AR Aluminum has started operating the country’s largest 9,000-ton (t) super-large extrusion press at its factory in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, on the 20th.
AR Aluminum formed an agreement with Sacheon City in May 2022 as part of the first phase of its business expansion and invested in the latest casting equipment worth 33 billion won. This was to achieve the quality and productivity of billets, ALMAC’s main raw material, beyond leading companies overseas.
The newly established extrusion plant, which corresponds to the second phase of the project, can meet the demand for high-strength, high-precision large products required by global automotive parts companies, ALMAC explained. ALMAC also secured an additional annual production capacity (CAPA) of approximately 20,000 tons.
ALMAC and AR Aluminum received large-scale low-carbon projects from the government this year and are conducting related research. They have already secured low-carbon aluminum production technology that emits 5.1 tons of carbon dioxide per ton of aluminum. They plan to start investing in aluminum recycling processes from the third quarter and to fully produce and sell low-carbon aluminum starting in the second half of 2026.
An ALMAC official said, “The AR Aluminum facility in Sacheon is the largest single facility in the domestic extrusion industry, equipped with the competitiveness optimized for maximizing productivity and producing large products,” adding, “We will create an opportunity for ALMAC and AR Aluminum to leap forward once again through rapid stabilization.”
