The global platform corporation Soosung Webtoon based on K-webtoon is projected to see a significant increase in revenue and operating profit this year.
According to the financial investment industry on the 18th, Soosung Webtoon expects its performance to change significantly as webtoon companies are officially incorporated as subsidiary companies starting this year. According to the provisional announcement of Soosung Webtoon’s operating results from last January, the annual operating profit for 2025 was anticipated to be 17.8 billion won, exceeding an operating profit of 4 billion won per quarter.
Additionally, there are analyses suggesting that Soosung Webtoon is unaffected by the reciprocal tariff policy of the U.S. Donald Trump administration. The company explained that it is perceived as a digital content provider without the tariff burden in addition to a global subscription fee, earning the title of "Korean version of the Netflix model."
Hanwha Securities noted in a report published on Feb. 9 that "Soosung Webtoon, unlike traditional export corporations centered on manufacturing, has a subscription-based digital content export model that frees it from tariff risks," adding that "Toomics' global subscription revenue model is similar to the Netflix-style content revenue structure," and further estimated that "2025 revenue will increase by 229% to 148.1 billion won, and operating profit will increase by 1,950% to 20.5 billion won compared to the previous year."
Soosung Webtoon expanded its business area from traditional manufacturing to the digital content industry by acquiring the webtoon platform Toomics Holdings in 2024. The subscription-based webtoon platform Toomics, which services in 11 languages worldwide, had approximately 60 million global members as of 2024, of which about 25 million are from English-speaking countries. About 80-85% of total revenue is generated overseas, benefiting significantly from the recent weak won environment.
A representative of Soosung Webtoon stated, "We will supply our own intellectual property (IP) content globally through Toomics with a stable subscription model, and further expand into secondary content (web novels, animations, games, etc.). The ability to service content directly without the tariffs or logistics risks associated with physical exports will provide us with a competitive edge as an export corporation in the global content industry."
Soosung Webtoon plans to officially enter markets in Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Indonesia, in 2025, aiming to leap forward as a global platform corporation.
