“He said he feels so heartbroken going to Jinbaosan every day.”
Koo Jun-yeob of Clon is still unable to escape the deep shock and sorrow from the sudden loss of his beloved wife, Taiwanese actress Seo Hee-won. Overcome with grief, he has lost 12 kg and his skin has tanned to such an extent that he quietly guards his late wife’s side, demonstrating a profound love that has deeply moved those around him and the public.
Seo Hee-won passed away on Feb. 2 while traveling with family at a hospital in Tokyo, Japan, due to pneumonia caused by the flu. The loss came just weeks shy of their third wedding anniversary, leaving Koo Jun-yeob and other bereaved family members in significant shock. Unable to hide his sorrow, Koo Jun-yeob kept watch over his wife’s urn with a gaunt face, while the bereaved family, after completing some funeral procedures in Japan, returned to Taiwan with the remains.
The funeral for Seo Hee-won, originally planned as a tree burial, was postponed, causing the urn to be kept in the home for some time. Amidst this confusion, including complaints from neighbors, Koo Jun-yeob expressed, “I hope there will be an independent space where I can visit Seo Hee-won anytime in the future,” and after consulting with family, he began searching for a new funeral location.
Since her passing, Koo Jun-yeob has indefinitely suspended all scheduled activities and remains in Taiwan to process related legal matters concerning his wife’s affairs. Koo Jun-yeob shared, “The time spent with Seo Hee-won was a precious and invaluable gift that I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world,” showing a strong sense of responsibility, stating, “Protecting the family she loved the most is the last thing I can do.”
Koo Jun-yeob’s profound love was evidenced at his wife Seo Hee-won’s resting place in Jinbaosan, Taiwan. He has shown deep sorrow and unwavering love by visiting the grave every day since she was laid to rest. Recently, he was spotted looking at nearby new houses, conveying his earnest desire to be closer to his wife.
A Chinese internet user, who encountered Koo Jun-yeob while visiting Seo Hee-won’s grave to pay respects, reported that he is “the person with the most profound love I have ever seen,” leaving those who heard the story deeply moved.
Koo Jun-yeob’s longing and sorrow for his wife have taken a toll on his body. He has lost about 12 kg and his skin has tanned to a considerable degree. Seo Hee-won’s mother explained, “The reason his skin is so dark is that he's always been by Seo Hee-won’s side. He’s truly a loyal and warm-hearted person. Meeting someone like him in life is something more than one could hope for. It’s true love.”
Koo Jun-yeob’s grief and dedication have also become a great comfort to the bereaved family. Seo Hee-won’s mother noted that seeing Koo Jun-yeob go to Jinbaosan every day makes her “feel so heartbroken,” yet she is deeply moved by his profound love. Seo Hee-won’s sister, Seo Hee-je, is also sharing sorrow with Koo Jun-yeob while expressing her longing for her sister.
Koo Jun-yeob is also directly involved in creating a memorial statue for his wife as a way to channel his longing into art. This statue is expected to be completed in time for the one-year anniversary of her passing, intended to forever honor his steadfast love and remembrance.
