Lee Min-woo is set to join the ranks of married men in the group, becoming the fourth member to do so. After overcoming various challenges, Lee Min-woo is marking the second chapter of his life with marriage.
On the 25th, Lee Min-woo posted a lengthy handwritten letter on his social media, stating, "Today, I picked up the pen to share some news that I want to tell Shinhwa Changjo first," as he personally conveyed his marriage news.
Lee Min-woo added, "Recently, going through various situations has made me psychologically difficult and exhausted, and by spending a lot of time with my family, I was reminded of the meaning of family. I always had a vague thought of wanting to build my own family where we support each other someday. During this time, I confirmed the same feelings with a valuable relationship I have known for a long time, and we decided to become one family."
Lee Min-woo continued, "I’m sure Shinhwa Changjo, who will be surprised by this sudden news, has been worried about how I should deliver this news. It wasn't easy for me to pick up the pen, but I thought about Shinhwa Changjo, who might feel disappointed and upset if they hear this news from elsewhere. So, I’m conveying this news in a clumsy letter first. I hope that my beloved Shinhwa Changjo will bless this story that I convey with my sincerity with warm hearts."
He also expressed his deep affection for his fans, stating, "Debuting as Shinhwa, I have been fortunate to receive overflowing love and support from Shinhwa Changjo throughout my passionate teens, twenties, and thirties. Thanks to the warm support and love of Shinhwa Changjo, who always backed me despite my shortcomings, I gained the courage to take another step forward. Although there were tough times, every moment living as Lee Min-woo on stage has been nothing but happiness."
With this, Lee Min-woo is now the fourth member of Shinhwa to join the married ranks, following Eric, Jin, and Andy. As Lee Min-woo announced his marriage news through a handwritten letter, congratulations from fans, as well as fellow artists like Brian and broadcaster Ahn Sun-young, have continued. Lee Min-woo's wedding story with his fiancée is set to be revealed in early August through the KBS 2TV variety show "Mr. House Husband."
Above all, there is a growing amount of congratulations and encouragement surrounding Lee Min-woo, as his marriage comes after overcoming difficult times. In June 2019, Lee Min-woo was embroiled in controversy when he was accused of forcibly kissing two women in their twenties at a pub in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, Seoul.
At the time, Lee Min-woo's side stated, "It was a misunderstanding that occurred during a casual gathering at a pojangmacha (a type of street stall), and we have resolved all misunderstandings through discussions with the parties involved. Although there was no forced molestation, we agreed to withdraw the report filed for it." Ultimately, Lee Min-woo was cleared of charges and could escape the controversy.
After escaping the controversy and returning to activities, Lee Min-woo was also deeply hurt after being scammed by a friend of his biological older sister, Ms. A. Ms. A reportedly deceived him saying, "I have connections within the prosecution, and I can help you get a non-guilty verdict," and took 1.6 billion won from him, eventually swindling a total of 2.6 billion won over 26 months. Ms. A was indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (Fraud), and the court found her guilty in both the first and second trials, sentencing her to 9 years in prison and ordering her to return approximately 2.6 billion won. The Supreme Court reversed the lower court's ruling last December and sent the case back to the Seoul High Court.
Above all, the '2.6 billion won fraud case' caused even greater wounds for Lee Min-woo as it was perpetrated by a lifelong friend. Due to the incident, he experienced health issues, and in March, he revealed, "I need to receive treatment within the golden time of 72 hours for my nerves damaged by stress, facial paralysis symptoms, and a specific condition. If left untreated for years like me, complete recovery is difficult, but consistent treatment can lead to improvement."
Having overcome unexpected allegations and controversies, and the wounds inflicted by acquaintances, Lee Min-woo is now starting a new chapter in life with marriage.
