The Netflix series 'Trigger' held a production presentation and fan event amid intense interest.
The Netflix series 'Trigger', which will be released on July 25th (Friday), held a production presentation on the 22nd (Tuesday) and shared exciting stories about the work with director Kwon Oh-seung and actors Kim Nam-gil, Kim Young-kwang, Park Hoon, and Gil Hae-yeon.
'Trigger' is an action disaster thriller depicting the story of two men who take up arms for their own reasons amid the delivery of illegal firearms of unknown origin in Korea and the constant occurrence of gun-related incidents. Director and writer Kwon Oh-seung noted, "Korean society has been showing an increase in conflict and confrontation for some time, and I thought about how people would react if someone maliciously distributed guns in such a society", leading to the project's conception. He emphasized, "'Trigger' is a work where the gun plays a central role in the story, and it showcases different actions depending on who is holding the gun," highlighting its distinction from other action works.
Kim Nam-gil, who plays the police officer 'Lee Do' who takes up arms again to uphold justice, expressed his attraction to the planning of 'Trigger'. He added, "I wanted to show restrained action rather than an action that fits the values of the character 'Lee Do'". Kim Young-kwang, who plays the mysterious assistant 'Moon Baek', stated, "The character felt fresh, and I was curious about how a free-spirited friend would change. Additionally, being a character that poses questions to people, I really wanted to be part of this project," revealing his reasons for choosing the role.
The meeting between Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang, known as 'action thriller powerhouses,' is the biggest reason to anticipate 'Trigger'. Kim Nam-gil said, "Each character has their own episodes, and Lee Do follows that story. Therefore, rather than directly leading something, I tried to approach it from the perspective of an observer, ensuring not to break the emotions and sentiments of the characters within each episode. Because of that character, there are different aspects from the characters I've portrayed before." Kim Young-kwang noted that he paid a lot of attention to styling for the role of 'Moon Baek', expressing, "In the early stages, I showed outfits that were easy to approach, but as the story progresses, I wanted to showcase the 'visual enjoyment' of 'Trigger' in a colorful and diverse manner," raising expectations.
In Korea, where gun possession is illegal, the narrative of Lee Do and Moon Baek, who pursue gun incidents, along with the performances of Park Hoon and Gil Hae-yeon, who appear as key figures in each incident, also sparked curiosity. Park Hoon, who plays the shadowy errand boy 'Gu Jeong-man', commented, "The setting where something that could harm someone is given to unspecified individuals in our country where guns are illegal, along with those who must stop it and those who cannot control that power, felt very symbolic," analyzing the attraction of the project.
He further explained, "The reasons each episode's protagonist picks up a gun are all different, but 'Gu Jeong-man' randomly comes into contact with a gun, which is an important point in showing the character of 'Gu Jeong-man.'" Gil Hae-yeon plays 'Oh Kyung-sook', a character who suffers the pain of losing a son. He shared, "After reading the script, I found the situation the characters face in each episode interesting, and the nightmare-like situation of guns being delivered sent chills down my spine due to the characters' desperation," and added, "When one seeks truth and apology but no one listens, pay attention to the choices that Oh Kyung-sook, who comes into contact with a gun, will make," raising anticipation.
'The Trigger' team stated, "'Trigger' is 'our' story. It is a work that can tell the stories necessary to create a better world for us" (Kim Nam-gil), "It is a work that poses many questions while also being a fun action and visual experience. I hope you enjoy it" (Kim Young-kwang), "I hope it becomes a good source of entertainment and a work like popcorn, which contains messages and philosophy beyond simple enjoyment" (Park Hoon), "There are many scenes in each episode that will evoke empathy. It is a work that is fun and chewy while also offering much to think about" (Gil Hae-yeon), "The last line of Part 1 will become a driving force until the end" (director Kwon Oh-seung), asking for anticipation along with observation points.
On the evening of the 22nd (Tuesday), a 'Talk&Shot fan event' was held where fans discussed the work. At the fan event attended by the stars of 'Trigger', Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang, 'highlight talks' and 'conversation talks' took place. Since it was a chance to preview the work's highlights and interact directly with the actors, the excitement at the venue was hotter than ever.
Kim Nam-gil, who showcased a variety of action in the series, shared, "It was not easy to perform action in the goshiwon scene. I tried to bring out the fear from the maze-like setting," revealing behind-the-scenes details of the action scenes. Actor Kim Young-kwang emphasized the special preparations made for action acting, stating, "I received training on how to handle guns and aim from an expert who actually served in a special forces unit," detailing his preparation for the role. Regarding the relationship between Lee Do and Moon Baek, Kim Nam-gil explained, "It is a relationship formed out of necessity" and added, "It is a relationship where they utilize each other for a certain purpose, and there's an interesting aspect in their situation where they are in the same space and moving towards a common goal while knowing little about each other." Kim Young-kwang elaborated, "In the case of Moon Baek, he tries to approach Lee Do casually. While Lee Do is wary of Moon Baek, Moon Baek continues to prove himself, appealing, 'I can help you,'" stimulating curiosity.
In this way, Kim Nam-gil and Kim Young-kwang created unforgettable moments with fans eagerly waiting for 'Trigger'. The chemistry showcased by the two actors, who possess contrasting charms, perfectly captivated the fans. Their witty yet sincere responses heightened expectations for 'Trigger.' Finally, Kim Nam-gil expressed, "I was very pleased to have meaningful time with fans who have taken an interest in 'Trigger' before its release," conveying his gratitude to the fans, while Kim Young-kwang added, "I was glad to be able to discuss the work a lot. Please look forward to the story of 'Moon Baek' once the work is released," expressing his thanks along with a call to view.
