My Troublesome Star star Uhm Jung-hwa is once again set for box office success following Doctor Cha Jeong-suk.
Set to premiere on Aug. 18 (Mon.) at 10 p.m., the Genie TV original drama My Troublesome Star (directed by Choi Young-hoon, written by Park Ji-ha, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by Jumbo Film) revealed on the 23rd a character still cut of Uhm Jung-hwa, who has flawlessly transformed into 'Bong Cheong-ja,' a top star with a career interruption spanning 25 years.
My Troublesome Star is a romantic comedy filled with tears and laughter that unfolds after Korea's top star suddenly becomes an ordinary middle-aged woman. The story depicts the sentimental comeback show of Bong Cheong-ja (played by Uhm Jung-hwa), a top star who has leaped over 25 years of interruption, and the police officer 'Dokgo-cheol' (played by Song Seung-heon), who helps him, generating delightful laughter, empathy, and excitement. This collaboration combines the skillful directing of Choi Young-hoon, known for works like One the Woman and Good Casting, and writer Park Ji-ha, who resonated with the public through The Day and Night Different Her. With high expectations for the reunion of the trusted production team, attention is also focused on the 10-year reunion of Uhm Jung-hwa and Song Seung-heon since Miss Wife.
Above all, there is intense interest in Uhm Jung-hwa's delightful transformation. Uhm Jung-hwa is expected to deliver stunning performances as 'Bong Cheong-ja,' a top star who has erased all memories of the past 25 years. Bong Cheong-ja's other identity is the legendary top star 'Im Se-ra,' who mysteriously vanished after dominating the entertainment industry in Korea. Having lost 25 years, Bong Cheong-ja prepares an emotional comeback show to reclaim lost time and her once-shining place.
The released character still of 'Bong Cheong-ja' ignites anticipation. Waking up in a hospital for some reason, Bong Cheong-ja appears dismayed at the unfamiliar reflection in the mirror. The once sparkling top star is nowhere to be seen, facing the reality of becoming an ordinary middle-aged woman. For a moment, she is disheartened by the hard-to-believe reality, but she dons sunglasses, showcasing her innate top star aura, hinting at her resilient spirit.
Bong Cheong-ja's dynamic struggle to adapt to reality has also been captured. In a scene where she is fumbling with a smartphone, it appears as if she has lost her memories along with the 25 years. Her moments of candidness as she faces the challenges of reemployment are also intriguing. It raises the question of whether Bong Cheong-ja will successfully adapt to reality and reclaim her lost 'dream' and 'place,' drawing attention to her sizzling comeback show.
Uhm Jung-hwa said, "After reading the script, I found it to be a fun and relatable story. Above all, I felt confident that I could portray it well, so I chose it without hesitation." She added, "Bong Cheong-ja values her work as an 'actor' above all else and is a person whose passion never fades. The character's allure lies in her determination to burn brightly like a flame and rise up once more." Uhm Jung-hwa expressed special affection for the character, stating, "To portray the gap between Bong Cheong-ja's appearance, which is in her 50s, and her inner self, which is stuck in her 20s, I focused on the emotional journey I've lived through as 'Im Se-ra.' I aimed to capture the energy and perspective from that time."
Meanwhile, the Genie TV original drama My Troublesome Star will premiere on Aug. 18 (Mon.) at 10 p.m. on channel ENA, with exclusive free VOD releases immediately after the broadcast every Monday and Tuesday.
