Broadcaster Dex, whose real name is Kim Jin-young, is embarking on a challenge to become an actor.
Kim Jin-young will take on the role of 'Jeong Hyun,' a human weapon raised by Kim Se-hee (Yum Jung-ah) and the actual operator of an illegal adoption organization, in the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects,' which premieres on the 21st. Jeong Hyun is portrayed as someone who absolutely obeys Se-hee's orders while effectively running the organization.
'The Defects' is an action thriller drama that tackles the subject of an illegal adoption cartel. The original webtoon has garnered 51 million views and won the Best Creativity Award at the 2017 SPP International Content Market, affirming its quality. 'The Defects' features actors such as Yum Jung-ah, Won Jina, Choi Young-joon, Ahn Ji-ho, Lee Na-eun, and Oh Seung-jun.
Kim Jin-young noted during the production presentation held at Stanford Hotel in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul, "I like to work with concentration, and after trying 'Tarot,' I found it attractive that an actor can focus intensively on a character," adding, "I focused on showing instinctive aggression and sharpness at the same time."
Kim Jin-young, a graduate of the Navy Special Warfare Brigade (UDT), has attracted attention for showcasing his physical strength and quick reflexes on various entertainment shows. He made his acting debut through the omnibus horror film 'Tarot: Seven Stories,' released earlier this year.
Kim Jin-young expressed, regarding this work, "Acting in action is different from real action, so it was a bit challenging when acting. I needed to do real action for that expression, and even during filming, I experienced a 'blackout' (temporary amnesia)." He added, "I was worried that I might become a flaw for the other actors, so I tried my best to engage in the work."
He also said, "I feel anxious with excitement. On one hand, I am looking forward to it. The script and the actors are really great. I think it’s a drama that definitely has resonance once you watch all eight episodes, not just sensational material." He mentioned, "I used to not believe the saying that if the other person acts well, you will also do well, but having experienced it, it’s true. I became absorbed by watching other actors."
Actor Choi Young-joon also stated, "I knew Dex earlier as an entertainer and was a fan. The reason I like the character Dex is because of his competitiveness." He remarked, "Even when we were talking, once filming began, his eyes changed; I learned a lot. (Kim Jin-young) is already a good actor." Won Jina added, "Dex never loses focus on set; I also filmed with tension."
