The 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards: IU and Ju Jihoon win Best Actor awards, with 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' and 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' sweeping the board
The 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards concluded as a celebration of 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' and 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.' IU embraced the Best Actress award, and Ju Jihoon became the Best Actor after overcoming intense competition. Lee Byung-hun illuminated the stage with 'Squid Game 3,' but sadly did not receive an award.
The KBS2TV '4th Blue Dragon Series Awards' broadcast on the 18th was opened with a witty performance by actor Yim Siwan. He said, "You need to be careful with your acceptance speech. Otherwise, you might end up having a real show," sharing a humorous story about how his acceptance speech from last year came back as a performance a year later.
MC Jun Hyun-moo laughed and said, "Yim Siwan's one-man show was unprecedented," while Shin Dong-yup noted, "Once words are spoken, it’s hard to take them back," teasing the next round of performances, which drew laughter.
#. Major category award winners: 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' and 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' dominate
First, in the entertainment category, Kian84 and Lee Soo-ji received the Best Male and Female Entertainer Awards for 'Extreme Doctor.' Kian84 expressed gratitude, saying, "I was worried that BTS Jin might run away while sleeping, but I’m thankful that he kept to the rules until the end," while Lee Soo-ji pointed out that "more than 200 people created SNL."
Next, the Upbit Popular Star Award was given to Lee Joon-hyuk, Park Bo-gum, IU, and Lee Hye-ri. The LG Uplus Good Influence Award was won by Ji Ye-eun from 'Extreme Doctor.' Ji Ye-eun humorously said, "I guess it's not a variety award, and I think I do have a little bit of good influence," sharing her witty acceptance speech.
In the Rookie Awards category, Choo Young-Woo from 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' won the Best Male Rookie Award, while Kim Min-ha from 'Way Back Love' won the Best Female Rookie Award, garnering attention as the next leading candidates. The Best Supporting Actor was Lee Kwang-soo for 'Karma,' and Yeom Hye-ran from 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' took home the Best Supporting Actress Award. Lee Kwang-soo humbly expressed, "I didn't expect it, but thank you."
The Best Actor award went to Ju Jihoon from 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.' It was a valuable result earned after competing against Lee Byung-hun from 'Squid Game 3' and Park Bo-gum from 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' The Best Actress award was given to IU for her perfect performance in two roles in 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' She conveyed her gratitude, saying, "This will be the greatest pride in my life, now and in the future."
#. What about the Best Drama and Grand Prize?
The Best Drama Award in the drama category went to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call,' while the Best Program Award in the entertainment sector went to 'Culinary Class Wars.' All the actors and production team shared the glory on stage.
The Grand Prize went to 'When Life Gives You Tangerines.' Jeon Do-yeon presented the award, stating, "It was a moment that revealed the true value of a well-made drama," and personally congratulated the team. The acceptance speech was delivered by Cha Tae-hyun, Lee Joon-young, and Park Bo-gum. Notably, Lee Joon-young, who previously gained attention due to a name mix-up incident with Lee Joon-hyuk, humorously remarked, "There are days in life when you hold a trophy twice."
#. Lee Byung-hun goes empty-handed, but his presence is certainly felt
Lee Byung-hun, who gained global attention with 'Squid Game 3,' failed to win any awards on this day. Especially during the opening stage, he unexpectedly became the target for a mime act by Yim Siwan, leading to disappointed reactions, such as, "Wasn't he just used?" However, many acknowledged the fierce competition.
As Lee Byung-hun’s award win did not materialize, 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' and 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call' each claimed three awards.
