Ahn Hyo-seop talked about the pressure of participating in 'Omniscient Reader.'
On the 16th, an interview with actor Ahn Hyo-seop from the movie 'Omniscient Reader: The Prophet' took place at a café in Palpan-dong, Seoul.
'Omniscient Reader: The Prophet' (directed by Kim Byeong-woo, provided by Lotte Entertainment and Smilegate, distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Realize Pictures Co., Ltd., co-produced by MYM Entertainment, Smilegate Realize, and The Present Company Co., Ltd.) is a fantasy action film about a world that becomes reality after the novel, serialized for over 10 years, concludes, featuring the sole reader Kim Dok-ja (played by Ahn Hyo-seop) alongside the main character Yoo Jung-hyuk (played by Lee Min-ho) and friends as they struggle to survive in a world that has been destroyed.
Ahn Hyo-seop plays Kim Dok-ja, the only person who knows the ending of a novel that has been serialized for over 10 years, in this blockbuster that cost approximately 30 billion won and is based on the popular web novel of the same name loved by global fans.
In relation to this, Ahn Hyo-seop mentioned, "I didn't read the original work from start to finish, but I watched enough to reference it. I focused on what kind of personality Kim Dok-ja has and his life, different from the script. Rather than creating him based on the original character, I wanted to reference it and create my own version of Kim Dok-ja."
Especially when asked about the pressure regarding the mixed reactions from original fans, Ahn Hyo-seop calmly said, "Even if I feel pressure, it won't solve anything. This is the face I was born with, so what can I do? I believe there is a clear reason the director cast me. I just thought I needed to faithfully perform as a reader, so I wasn't greatly swayed by it."
Additionally, regarding the pressure of the 30 billion won blockbuster, he said, "If I feel pressure, I would say I do, but it seems like something that's out of my hands. I believe I did my best on set as an actor. Rather than thinking, 'I've done it,' I truly worked hard to love Kim Dok-ja. I wanted to express Kim Dok-ja very well. Through that process, I went through a lot of trial and error, and affection grew. In my heart, I have gained a work that is very meaningful. I guess I can only hope it will do well at the box office, even if it is just a little."
