Actor Sung Dong-il, known for his strong character as the father of unique daughters in the tvN drama series 'Reply 1988,' is set to make a comeback on the big screen as a father with a daughter who is a demon in 'Pretty Crazy,' the new film by director Lee Sang-geun, who also directed the hit 'Exit.'
The film 'Pretty Crazy' is a devilishly comedic story about the struggles of a young man, Gil-gu (Ahn Bo-hyun), who gets caught up in an unusual part-time job of monitoring Seon-ji (Im Yoon-ah), who wakes up as a demon every dawn.
Sung Dong-il has announced his involvement in the movie 'Pretty Crazy' as a father with a daughter who is a demon, an entirely different level from his previous roles. Sung Dong-il plays the character Jang-soo, who has cared for his daughter Seon-ji (Im Yoon-ah), who wakes up as a demon every dawn, throughout his life. After enduring Seon-ji's terrifying secrets for many years, Jang-soo eventually suffers an unfortunate accident that injures him up to his waist and proposes a part-time job to the unemployed young man Gil-gu (Ahn Bo-hyun) in the upstairs apartment to protect his daughter every dawn. Feeling a sense of trust in Gil-gu, who has strong physical endurance and a pure character, Jang-soo is expected to elicit both laughter and empathy from the audience as he appears desperate yet sincere.
Sung Dong-il noted, "Raising a daughter in real life greatly helped me in portraying Jang-soo. Jang-soo also slightly used Gil-gu because he was tired of the long repetitive life." Director Lee Sang-geun stated, "With the appearance of actor Sung Dong-il, who could have made it feel slack, there were many cases where the scenes strengthened. Whenever actor Sung Dong-il came up with a new idea or delivered an existing line, it became a powerful force." In 'Pretty Crazy,' actor Sung Dong-il will not only showcase the realistic image of a father but also deliver unwavering performances amidst the unprecedented setting of 'demon care,' maintaining the film's balance.
The film 'Pretty Crazy,' featuring the delightful fatherly love of Sung Dong-il for the most unique devilish daughter seen to date, will be available in theaters nationwide on Aug. 13 (Wed).
