Kim Min-ho, Deputy Minister of the Gwangju Cultural Broadcasting (Gwangju MBC), received the ‘Special Contribution Award’ from the Korean Producers Association (Chairman Lim Baek-woon). This award is given to individuals who have contributed to the development of Korean popular culture and the entertainment industry, and it recognizes Kim's over 30 years of broadcasting production activities and creative planning skills.
Deputy Minister Kim Min-ho has planned and produced the high-quality live music program ‘Cultural Concert Nanjang’ for 17 years. He has been evaluated for discovering and introducing numerous talented artists such as Geumcheongchima, Mongni, Kukkasten, Annyeongbada, and Melomance, thereby simultaneously elevating the quality of Korea's music industry and broadcasting content. He has also played a pivotal role in revitalizing local culture by leading various regional public broadcasts and music festivals for more than 20 years.
In particular, he held the ‘Nanjang 518 Minute Festival’ in August 2017, which spanned 518 minutes (8 hours and 38 minutes) to explore the symbolic and cultural significance of Gwangju through music, focusing on democracy, human rights, and freedom. A total of 10 teams of musicians (Takapi, Annyeongbada, Romantic Punch, Bulet, Shin Hyun-hee and Kim Root, Super Kid, APRIL, Chilly Cherry, Hash, and Heize Moon) presented the theme song ‘Breath of May’ to convey the true meaning of May 18.
In 2020, he validated the international competitiveness of K-content by planning and producing the ‘Asian Top Band’ in collaboration with broadcasting stations from eight Asian countries, winning the ‘Overseas Broadcasting Award’ from the Korea Communications Commission.
Recently, Deputy Minister Kim Min-ho's project ‘Asian Top Band Season 3 (ATB3)’ has garnered attention again after being selected for the ‘2025 Overseas Export-oriented AI and Digital-based Broadcasting Program Production Support Project,’ organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and implemented by the Korea Communications Agency (KCA).
This season is expected to expand into a joint production project with broadcasting stations from 10 Asian countries, including Korea, and will be produced as a global music competition program that combines AI and digital technology.
Deputy Minister Kim Min-ho expressed his gratitude saying, “For 17 years, I have strived to expand the value of music and the social role of broadcasting through the production of various music contents, including ‘Cultural Concert Nanjang.’ I will continue to work hard to create a platform that connects various music and cultures of Asia.”
This award not only highlights the capabilities and potential of local broadcasting content creators but is also regarded as an important milestone in the flow of K-content moving toward the global stage.
