'B:MY BOYZ' A historic team deathmatch that even top idol Monsta X admired has begun.
On the 12th, the 4th episode of the SBS massive global boy group audition program 'B:MY BOYZ' (hereafter 'B:MY BOYZ') featured the 13 vs. 13 team deathmatch stage unfolding in front of top idol Monsta X.
The second round will progress as a team competition between MyMonstars (William, Ikuto, Choi Yo-han, Yang Seong-hee, Hyo, Park Se-chan, Lee Yeon-tae, Kim Jung-hoon, Lim Ji-hwan, Lee Jun-myung, Lee Yoon-seong, Seo Jun-hyuk, and Ban Daniel) and Monsta B (Kim Bo-hyun, Star Chai, Kai, Haruto, Ai, Moon Jae-il, Hwang Hee-woo, Yang Hyun-bin, Hiroto, Lee Zhi-wai, Park Jun-hyuk, and Kang Jun-sung). The thrilling competition format, where only one team selected as 'TOP PICK' by top idols Monsta X's Shownu, Kihyun, and Hyungwon will survive after going through 'representative song matches', 'vocal matches', and 'mega performance matches', drew attention.
In anticipation of the stage, the B:GINNERs noted backstage, "We practiced a lot. We are approaching this with great passion."
First, in the 'representative song match', MyMonstars selected 'Love Killa', while Monsta B chose 'Shoot Out'. When the original artist Monsta X asked about the highlights of the stage, MyMonstars' Lee Yoon-seong replied, "I think the intro to 'Love Killa' is the most important," while Monsta B's Moon Jae-il expressed, "We tried to capture the unique feel of 'Shoot Out', which many people love." Ahead of the stage, Monsta X's Shownu supported, saying, "Haruto has a cute image, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll handle the sexy concept." Kihyun displayed his seniority by asking the 'Love Killa' team for relaxation and the 'Shoot Out' team for power.
The MyMonstars team prepared the 'Love Killa' stage under the leadership of 'hexagonal all-rounder' Kim Jung-hoon, who has experience as a trainee in a major agency. Kim Jung-hoon expressed confidence, saying, "If you tell me what you don't know, I'll engrave it in your head." However, as the intro center changed from Lee Yoon-seong to Choi Yo-han and then to Lee Yeon-tae, the team faced criticism during the midpoint check as a crisis arose. Kim Jung-hoon expressed responsibility in tears, while William encouraged, saying, "I will trust Kim Jung-hoon and follow him well."
In the Monsta B team, Moon Jae-il, who stated, "I am confident in my performance and dancing," led the practice for 'Shoot Out'. While not hesitating to provide tough love for the members, he said, "I became a tiger teacher because we have to survive." During the midpoint check, the masters praised, "The energy driven by Moon Jae-il is very good," while Hiroto, feeling inadequate, expressed, "This is an opportunity for me to grow," showcasing his passion by practicing late into the night during the training camp.
After the impressive performances by both teams, Monsta X's Hyungwon praised the MyMonstars team, saying, "They created a sexy vibe that truly belies their young age," and added, "However, I felt it could have been a bit more powerful, which was a shame." Kihyun commented, "I was drawn to Lee Yeon-tae at the center."
Next, Kihyun evaluated the Monsta B team, saying, "As soon as it started, I thought, 'This is going to be a great stage.' Since it's a difficult song, I felt that as it went on, there was a sense of breaking down in vocals and dance, but even though there were some pitch issues, I liked the fresh, bold delivery." He specifically noted, "Moon Jae-il does it so well, it's like he’s doing his own thing."
The second vocal match stage was also held. In MyMonstars, Im Ji-hwan, Park Se-chan, Lee Jun-myung, and Seo Jun-hyuk performed BTS's 'Spring Day,' while in Monsta B, Lee Zhi-wai, Park Jun-hyuk, Kang Jun-sung, and Jang Won sang DAY6's 'You Were Beautiful'. Monsta X's main vocalist Kihyun expressed excitement, saying, "I'm really looking forward to it since the members have great voices."
The MyMonstars team reinterpreted 'Spring Day' as a ballad-style fan song, introducing their motivation by saying, "During the first round competition, we felt the infinite and unconditional love of our fans." Lee Jun-myung contributed various opinions on the arrangement direction, from an orchestral style to wanting the emotion to burst forth in the chorus. However, during the midpoint check, the master Jin-ho pointed out, "The arrangement seems to be set as a fan song, but seeing the movements, it looks more like a friendship song," while another vocal master Yuju added, "Among the repeatedly sung lines of 'I miss you,' none struck me emotionally. Let’s sing it as if we are watching a music video," providing focused coaching on emotional engagement to the youngest, Park Se-chan.
The stage of 'Spring Day,' which sincerely piled up harmonies filled with gratitude and love for the fandom B:inUS, satisfied both Monsta X and the masters. Kihyun praised, "Im Ji-hwan seemed a bit nervous in the early part, but he really got into it in the latter half. Lee Jun-myung’s ability to change his vocal tone to fit the song makes him seem like a professional singer. Seo Jun-hyuk not only excelled in high notes but also impressed with his soft and refined falsetto handling." Hyungwon expressed, "Park Se-chan's voice is art. I want to work together next time," while master Hui also acknowledged the potential and possibilities of the B:GINNERs by stating, "If they grow well, they will be wonderful singers."
In the warm atmosphere, the Monsta B team prepared the 'You Were Beautiful' stage with tension. Attention is focused on whether Monsta B's vocals can continue to receive praise.
With the 'You Were Beautiful' stage from the Monsta B vocal team and Monsta X's debut song 'Trespass' still remaining, 'B:MY BOYZ' has captured the hearts of B:inUS once again as it has shown growth. The dazzling journey of 'B:MY BOYZ,' which is gaining more enthusiasm day by day, draws attention.
Meanwhile, 'B:MY BOYZ' airs every Saturday at 5:20 p.m. and is available worldwide on various OTT platforms including Netflix, Abema, WeTV, and Rakuten Viki.
