Tonight's KBS 1TV movie talk show 'Life is a Movie' features actor Lee Jae-yong as a guest, reflecting on scenes from his life’s works including the movies 'Friend,' 'Steel Rain,' 'Multi-cell Girl,' and 'Save the Earth,' conveying unique emotions.
'Life is a Movie' is hosted by KBS announcer Lee Jae-seong, with movie criticism creator Liner appearing as a fixed panel member. The show goes beyond simple reviews to explore the historical context surrounding the films and individual experiences, revisiting the moments when movies become life.
On this day's broadcast, movie creator Liner noted, 'In 'Friend,' Jang Dong-gon, famous for the line 'Go to Hawaii,' delivered a top-notch performance, but the scene featuring Lee Jae-yong (as Cha Sang-gon) had a different intensity,' highlighting the movie 'Friend' as one of actor Lee Jae-yong's representative works.
He added, 'Cha Sang-gon occupies half of the worldview of 'Friend,' remarking that his villainous performance symbolizes a moment of leveling up in Korean noir.
Another movie creator, almost gone, also praised saying, 'When Cha Sang-gon speaks with those shining eyes and a slow tone, it perfectly matches the tone of 'The Godfather.'
In the actual movie 'Friend,' Lee Jae-yong's character, Cha Sang-gon, has few scenes; however, his intense performance in each cut deeply resonated with the audience. At the time, Lee Jae-yong said, 'The moment I saw the lighting, I thought, 'This feels like a Coppola-directed film,’ and so I completely redesigned my acting,' mentioning an episode in which he reshaped his acting style to match the lighting and environment, leaving the panel members in awe.
Meanwhile, Lee Jae-yong received applause from the MCs and panels by re-enacting his performance from the drama 'The Age of Outsiders' on the spot. Additionally, he reportedly caused laughter by sharing his method for villainous acting with the overly enthusiastic MC Lee Jae-seong.
As the topic of 'Multi-cell Girl,' which garnered attention for featuring one person playing nine roles, came up, Lee Jae-yong laughed, saying, 'I found it hard, but Woon Jong's embarrassment was even greater,' while almost gone remarked, 'If actor Woon Jong sees this broadcast, he'll say, ‘How could I have forgotten this!’ which reportedly incited a firestorm in the studio.
