'Iron Girls 2' announced the return of a legendary variety show with an unprecedented level of excitement.
In the first episode of tvN's 'Iron Girls 2' (directed by Banggeul), which aired yesterday (11th), Yui, Geum Saerok, Park Juhyun, and Seol Inah embarked on a journey of blood, sweat, and tears to become boxing champions within four months. The intensity of the challenges, compared to the last season, as well as the larger scale, ultra-intensive training, and teamwork left a powerful impression right from the start.
This season's ultimate goal is to become boxing champions within four months, with announcements of participation in two boxing tournaments, drawing attention with preparations for the boxing ring and special matches for 'Iron Girls 2.' Notably, Lim Aeji, Korea's first Olympic medalist in women's boxing, and Jung Juhyung, a national representative in women's boxing for the 2024 Paris Olympics, participated as special match athletes to promote the development of women's boxing.
Additionally, Jung Juhyung's story of starting boxing at the late age of 28 and competing in a tournament just 3 to 4 months later, as well as being selected as a national representative just a year after participating in local sports competitions, provided hope and courage to the members. Furthermore, Jung Juhyung expressed, 'I also won within 3 to 4 months, so I am confident that you all can become champions,' while Lim Aeji said, 'I believe everyone can succeed because I saw your tenacity during the triathlon.'
The members checked their attacking power and stamina through a two-minute boxing preview experience against Director General Kim Donghyun, a former mixed martial arts athlete. Despite Kim Donghyun not attacking and only dodging, everyone except 'stamina monster' Yui faced their physical limits. Meanwhile, Seol Inah proved her boxing talent as an 'exercise genius' by successfully landing punches on Kim Donghyun's face twice, causing him to become nervous.
The subsequent first stamina training featured high difficulty, as they ascended a ski jump tower about 40 stories high in reverse. Notably, if they did not succeed within 12 minutes, slightly longer than last year's women's final record of 11 minutes and 23 seconds, they would need to climb the ski jump tower once more.
Seol Inah, who maintained first place while alternating between sprinting and resting on the steep slope, reached the finish line in an impressive 10 minutes and 19 seconds. Yui, who maintained her pace without resting even once, finished in 11 minutes and 17 seconds, and Geum Saerok, who overcame her fear of heights, completed the challenge in 13 minutes and 27 seconds. Park Juhyun, who had suffered from chronic calf pain since last season, still managed a record of 19 minutes and 18 seconds with her grit.
Unable to arrive within the target time, Geum Saerok and Park Juhyun's second ascent of the ski jump was accompanied by Yui and Seol Inah, providing a heartfelt moment. Yui teamed up with Park Juhyun, and Seol Inah with Geum Saerok, offering generous advice and support. Furthermore, Geum Saerok and Seol Inah, who had completed the challenge, returned down the ski jump tower to cheer on Park Juhyun, inspiring her to overcome her calf pain and ascend the remaining 100 meters without resting, successfully finishing the task.
'Iron Girls 2' has created a chemistry that excites the anticipation for the future stories, starting with the valuable experience of the members, who are boxing novices, witnessing the games of national representatives and conversing with the athletes, and overcoming the intense stamina training of climbing the ski jump tower together.
