'Brain Academy's 'Brains' achieved a remarkable success by winning a knowledge medal in the 'medical field.'
In the 7th episode of the quiz show 'Brain Academy' aired on Channel A on 10th at 10 p.m., while Lee Sang-yeop was temporarily away, 'Brains' members Jun Hyun-moo, Ha Suk-jin, Yoon Sohui, Hwang Je-seong, and Kweido won the 'medical' knowledge medal by answering all the questions posed by 'Medical Master' Yoo Seong-ho, marking the third knowledge medal won for science and history, providing dopamine and information to home viewers.
On that day, medical examiner Professor Yoo Seong-ho, who appeared as the 'Medical Master,' stated, "Let's find out how humanity has managed to prevent death." He immediately moved on to an introduction to 'anatomy' and asked, "As the necessity of medical education emerged in the past, it became legally permissible to dissect the corpses of executed individuals. But who held the knife at that time?" Yoon Sohui shouted, "The barber!" and Professor Yoo Seong-ho praised her, saying, "That's correct. Truly a great brain."
From the beginning, Yoon Sohui showed remarkable skills when the quiz, "What medical device was invented in the early 19th century and still plays a very important role today?" was suddenly posed. This time, Yoon Sohui suggested the answer 'stethoscope,' but Kweido remarked that it seemed like "a microscope," creating a tight logical debate. The 'Brains' had a heated discussion over the two answers and, after careful consideration, proposed 'stethoscope,' which turned out to be correct. Immediately, exclamations of "Sohui too!" erupted from various corners, and Jun Hyun-moo also expressed confidence, saying, "I can just trust Sohui." In the following quiz, Kweido excelled. Professor Yoo Seong-ho asked, "How was the 'laughing gas' used at 19th-century shows and parties later utilized in the medical field?" Kweido accurately answered, "It was used for anesthesia" based on his knowledge.
In a situation where the 'science line' demonstrated overwhelming strength in the medical field, Professor Yoo Seong-ho mentioned, "Many cases of women dying after giving birth occurred in one hospital. Particularly, when midwives attended to the mothers, the mortality rate was 2-3%, whereas when medical students were in charge, it approached 10%." He then posed the quiz, "What innovative measure was introduced in the Vienna hospital in Austria in the mid-19th century to reduce maternal mortality?" Jun Hyun-moo sighed, saying, "That's difficult," but Yoon Sohui recalled, "I think medical students were proud of having blood on their gowns. Perhaps midwives didn’t wash their hands?" This turned out to be the correct answer, and Professor Yoo Seong-ho praised her, saying, "You did very well, Yoon Sohui."
As the studio was filled with excitement, a discussion about 'bacteria' emerged. Professor Yoo Seong-ho asked, "Louis Pasteur created pasteurization; what is it called in English?" At that moment, Jun Hyun-moo confidently blurted out an incorrect answer, "Sous-vide," which made everyone burst into laughter. Then, the quiz, "What food was the decisive factor that led the chemist Pasteur to begin his research on microorganisms?" was posed, and Kweido speculated, "It might be a representative food of France." Hwang Je-seong murmured, "Champagne, wine..." Surprisingly, 'wine' turned out to be the correct answer, bringing astonishment. Amid the explosion of 'collective intelligence,' Professor Yoo Seong-ho mentioned the first antibiotic, 'penicillin,' and posed the question, "Why did penicillin spread globally?" Yoon Sohui responded, "Because of the World Wars!" and Professor Yoo Seong-ho exclaimed, "Indeed, life sciences! You're so smart." As praises continued to be directed at Yoon Sohui, Jun Hyun-moo suddenly expressed his jealousy, saying, "You're too biased!" making the scene erupt in laughter.
As the 'Brains' shined brighter than ever, finally the 'forensic medicine' session with medical examiner Professor Yoo Seong-ho began. Professor Yoo first referenced a murder case in Argentina and posed the quiz, "What was the critical evidence that allowed us to identify the true culprit?" Yoon Sohui and Kweido simultaneously shouted, "DNA," but Ha Suk-jin argued, "DNA is foreign to that era. Isn’t fingerprinting still significant evidence today?" The actual answer was 'fingerprint,' and Professor Yoo Seong-ho explained, "The three types of evidence used in forensic science today are DNA, fingerprints, and dental records. Yoo Byung-eon was identified by (his body’s) dental records. I also confirmed (the dental records) on-site."
Finally, Professor Yoo Seong-ho asked, "Based on the autopsy results of forensic medicine, what object was mandated by the revision of the Road Traffic Act in 2006?" Jun Hyun-moo shouted, "Black box," and Ha Suk-jin said, "Rear seat seatbelt." Then, Ha Suk-jin speculated, "Oh? Isn’t it a child car seat? Because a seatbelt wouldn’t provide protection," and Yoon Sohui responded, "That seems right," raising her 'knowledge sense.' The 'Brains' that got the answer right enjoyed the joy of having won the 'medical' medal together.
