Super Junior's Kim Heechul announced that he will take to the stage for the first time in 10 years.
On the 11th, a new video titled "(Congratulations) Super Junior 20th Anniversary Celebration" was released on the YouTube channel "Channel 15ya."
On this day, to commemorate their 20th anniversary, Super Junior met with Producer Na Young-seok and mentioned Kim Heechul's inclusion as something different about this album. Leeteuk stated, "This time, Heechul has joined after 10 years."
Kim Heechul was involved in a car accident while coming up to Seoul after attending the funeral of Donghae, a fellow group member, in 2006, sustaining injuries including a thigh fracture and an ankle fracture that required 12 weeks of rehabilitation. He underwent major surgery, which involved the placement of seven metal pins, and was reportedly diagnosed with a disability level of 4.
Kim Heechul said, "I haven't been on stage for a long time due to the car accident I had, and since this is the 20th anniversary, I joined, but so much has changed. Nowadays, there's a challenge to do everything. I haven't gone on tour since 2018." Kyuhyun added, "We know the choreography as eight members, but he knows the position as a nine-member group."
Producer Na asked, "This album must be a challenge for Heechul, right?" Heechul admitted, "I'm so nervous. Since it has been 10 years, I think of dancing as a 33-year-old, but my body is 43. So, my body struggles a bit."
Leeteuk confessed, "Heechul will definitely struggle during dance practice and has a lot to do, so I maybe prepared that he would burst during the one month of preparation. But he didn't burst. He worked so hard, and when I asked if he wasn't tired, he said, 'It's hard, but it's fun.'
Leeteuk continued, "It's been 10 years since Heechul danced a complete song, and he only appeared for about 10 seconds in between. So, when people wonder, 'Isn't that Super Junior?' it’s because of the contracted advertisements or being on stage. Then, all nine must perform together. Since he kept coming out, he appeared just when he was about to be forgotten."
Meanwhile, Super Junior, including Kim Heechul, released their 12th studio album, "Super Junior 25" (슈퍼주니어 이오), on the 8th.
