Heo Young-man confessed that he received the first running guarantee in the film industry in ‘Radio Star.’
On the 9th, MBC's entertainment show ‘Radio Star’ (hereafter ‘RaS’) featured a special segment called ‘Hororok! Food Road,’ with Heo Young-man, Choiza, Lee Guk-joo, and Park Eun-young as guests.
That day, Heo Young-man boasted about the guest lineup for ‘Baekban Gihang,’ saying, “At first, it was difficult to fill the slots. But these days, it’s full until September.” After hearing this, Kim Gu-ra was surprised, saying, “I’m watching too, but Son Suk-ku goes out even when he’s not here.”
Then Heo Young-man said, “That person came out and claimed that he draws well. He said he draws well in front of me, so I asked him to show me.” He continued, “He draws better than anyone I’ve seen so far. He mentioned he attended art school briefly.” He praised Son Suk-ku, saying, “He seems very kind. After that, I liked Son Suk-ku. He even tried acting in a play.”
Heo Young-man has around 25 works that have been adapted into films or dramas. Heo Young-man selected the film ‘Tazza: The High Rollers’ as the most memorable work. In particular, he revealed, “Since ‘Tazza: The High Rollers,’ I received running guarantees for ‘Tazza’ parts 2, 3, and 4. I’m the first original creator to contract with a running guarantee,” which drew attention.
When Kim Gu-ra said, “You received a lot,” Heo Young-man responded, “I made a very unprecedented contract.” To this, Kim Gu-ra witfully retorted, “Those who roll in it are people like Jo Seung-woo, but the money...” which elicited laughter.
Then Heo Young-man candidly shared, “My ambition is that I couldn’t receive investment for ‘Tazza’ part 4 due to COVID-19. Now, I’ve received investment and started in earnest. ‘Tazza’ part 4 is the strongest among the series. I hope that if it succeeds, it will progress like the 007 series.” Kim Gu-ra commented, “May you live a long life and keep making money until the end,” to which Heo Young-man jokingly replied, “That’s why I live long.”
Most notably, that day, Heo Young-man mentioned Imalnyeon and made a cold evaluation that surprised everyone. He said, “Imalnyeon first serialized in ‘Ilgan Sports.’ He’s good. But when a person starts something, their skills should gradually improve, but his seem to be declining.”
Kim Gu-ra asked, “Has he changed his style?” but Heo Young-man replied, “What if he changes it to something unlikable?” He said, “Picasso was extremely realistic at first. But later, it became increasingly strange. Everyone wondered why he turned that way. There’s no room for Imalnyeon to change like that.”
Surprised, Kim Gu-ra said, “Since it's a senior talking about Malnyeon, it’s probably because he’s being considerate,” and Kim Guk-jin added, “It seems you had a lot of affection for Imalnyeon.” In response, Heo Young-man expressed his regret, saying, “I’m angry that the person I should have liked is ruined.”
He then sent a video message to Imalnyeon, saying, “I really viewed you positively when you were in Ilgan Sports. It seemed like a new star had emerged. Since you’re a senior, I think you’re in a worthy position. Don’t hold any hard feelings and give me a call for a drink.”
Meanwhile, Heo Young-man talked about his comeback plans, saying, “I’ve been preparing the work for five years. The manga story is almost complete.” He added, “I will serialize it on social media. I won’t disclose the name and will work solely as a cartoonist. I will also challenge a new style of painting. I don’t need manuscript fees and will draw it alone without any apprentices,” drawing anticipation.
