'Dog President' Kang Hyung-wook is back. He, who once faced public backlash due to an abuse of power controversy, resumes broadcasting activities after a year with the new entertainment show 'The Time of Dogs and Wolves.'
Kang Hyung-wook will appear on Channel A's new entertainment program 'The Time of Dogs and Wolves,' which premieres on Aug. 5. 'The Time of Dogs and Wolves' is expected to be a reality show that delves into the lives and relationships of guardians beyond pet behavior, containing a serious message that penetrates the experiences and controversies surrounding Kang Hyung-wook, known as 'Dog President.'
According to the production team, 'The Time of Dogs and Wolves' features an analysis of crisis situations between guardians and their pets, focusing on 'relationship recovery' rather than training to solve problems. The teaser video released earlier attracted attention with the provocative narration, "Is your dog a dog or a wolf?"
Among this, Kang Hyung-wook's past controversies also draw attention. This is due to the allegations of workplace bullying and abuse of power surrounding Bodum Company, which Kang Hyung-wook represented.
In May of last year, Kang Hyung-wook, along with his wife, was embroiled in a workplace abuse disclosure from Bodum Company employees. It was revealed that Kang Hyung-wook verbally abused employees and monitored them through messenger and CCTV. Expressions like "Don't even breathe" and "Like a bug" shocked many. As Kang Hyung-wook has been portrayed in broadcasts as a kind figure through dog training and behavioral correction, the fallout was even greater.
In relation to this, Kang Hyung-wook left KBS 2TV's entertainment program 'The Dog is Incredible.' He also expressed his apologies through his personal YouTube channel. However, he announced legal action regarding some false statements. Later, Kang Hyung-wook and his wife were sued for violating the Information and Communications Network Act due to unauthorized access to company messenger. However, in February, they received a decision of no charges. The allegations of workplace bullying also reportedly concluded without legal action.
As a result, although he is legally not culpable, criticism against Kang Hyung-wook remains. Notably, after a year of controversy, news of his return to broadcasting with 'The Time of Dogs and Wolves' has emerged.
Legally being without charges, the public still values a sincere change in attitude more highly. Could 'The Time of Dogs and Wolves' give Kang Hyung-wook back his time as 'Dog President'?
Kang Hyung-wook's dog training book, 'Still, to You Who Want to Raise a Dog,' published last January, became a bestseller despite the abuse of power controversy, garnering attention. The outcome of 'Dog President's' comeback is being closely watched.
