Broadcaster Jeong Seon-hee confessed to the deep wounds she experienced after the death of her husband and her long hesitation to return to the world amid public criticism.
Jeong Seon-hee married the late actor Ahn Jae-hwan in 2007 but was widowed the following year. Having lost her husband just a year after their wedding, Jeong Seon-hee faced a difficult time in her life due to a series of misfortunes, various conspiracy theories surrounding her, and the cold gaze and criticism from the public.
Jeong Seon-hee revealed that she was "in shock and hospitalized while on the brink of death," and she suffered extreme physical and mental pain. As a result, she had to halt all broadcasting activities and lived for over ten years avoiding the outside world to the extent that she could not even look at online comments.
However, there were those who quietly supported Jeong Seon-hee. In particular, her young niece, despite being just 5 years old, held back tears when visiting her aunt in the hospital, which was heartwarming. Jeong Seon-hee expressed deep gratitude to her niece, who regarded her with respect even when she was at her lowest.
Breaking a long silence, Jeong Seon-hee reappeared before the public through her YouTube channel "Jeong Seon-hee Gone Home" and candidly shared how deeply she was touched by the warm gaze and support from the public throughout this journey.
In a recently released video, Jeong Seon-hee, who went paragliding in Danyang, was moved to tears at a rest area by a fruit gift left by a fan, exclaiming, "People are so kind." Seeing countless fans requesting photos before filming, she remarked, "I feel so unfamiliar. Because normally no one acknowledges me like this when I walk in front of my house," expressing her surprise at the warm welcome instead of the cold gaze she had anticipated.
What brought Jeong Seon-hee to tears was a comment from a fan. "Someone said they took a day off work on the day I returned as a radio DJ. They accurately remembered the date, and I wondered how they knew. Then they explained that they took the day off to listen to my radio show. This person asked me to remember them, saying someone has even taken a day off work just because they missed my voice," Jeong Seon-hee recalled as she shed heartfelt tears.
Jeong Seon-hee expressed, "I was so grateful. It wasn't easy to keep Jeong Seon-hee safe in Korea. Thank you for all the hard work," sincerely thanking those who had supported her for a long time.
The warm support helped Jeong Seon-hee regain the courage and confidence she had lost. She successfully faced the paragliding challenge, which she had seen as a symbol of her 'avoidant' life, stating, "My heart feels unburdened. It's like a breakthrough." Through this experience, Jeong Seon-hee began a journey of rediscovering herself, saying, "I have many misconceptions about myself. I actually like this kind of thing."
In particular, Jeong Seon-hee questioned whether the manual she had built up about herself was actually an image she had confined herself to, stating that through her YouTube channel, she was discovering "the me I didn't even know" and that it felt like she was "dating myself." Jeong Seon-hee is sharing her story of finding light again through warm encouragement and self-reflection, overcoming the darkness of deep trauma and public condemnation, providing hope and comfort to many.
