Lee Young-ji, 'Labubu' falls victim to counterfeit scam, shocking… story that even appeared in overseas news.
Singer Lee Young-ji has become the talk of the town as her experience of falling victim to a counterfeit scam involving the globally popular character 'Labubu' doll has been reported in overseas news.
On the 10th, Lee Young-ji shared a post on her social media saying, 'Please let me know if this Labubu is real or not,' along with a video. The video showed Lee unboxing the 'Labubu' box, a popular random figure from the Chinese Pop Mart.
Lee expressed her expectations, stating, 'I bought 4 second-hand ones, and I hope to get a secret in one of them.' When she opened the box, the desired 'secret' character appeared, and she couldn't hide her excitement, saying, 'Is this real? I really got a secret, right?'
However, that joy did not last long. Lee eventually learned that the doll was not genuine, expressing her disappointment by saying, 'My Labubu is a fake… it was a fake Labubu… it has no ring, and there’s no KARD...' She added, 'I will buy the authentic one and unbox it again. Everyone, don't be deceived and buy the real one.'
The incident did not end there. Lee Young-ji's 'counterfeit unboxing video' was featured in a report by Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS News, causing a stir even locally. She shared the news report showing her reaction, saying, 'They reported I bought a fake Labubu. It's real. Not even Korean news.'
The report captured Lee's surprised reaction while opening the box and has been noted as a symbolic case that highlights the issue of the 'counterfeit market' amid the global character craze.
Meanwhile, Lee Young-ji recently wrapped up her appearance on the tvN entertainment show 'Bbangbbang Earth Arcade Season 3' and continues to engage in both entertainment and music activities.
