Singer Lee Young-ji fell victim to a counterfeit scam.
On the 10th, Lee Young-ji uploaded a video to her social account saying, "Please let me know if this Labubu is real or not."
The video showed Lee Young-ji unboxing a random box of the popular character 'Labubu' from the Chinese Pop Mart. The doll is a representative character toy sold by a Chinese toy corporation and has become so popular locally in China that there has been a shortage. The excitement has extended to Korea, where people have to either wait in line to buy the doll or pay extra for a used one.
In the midst of this, Lee Young-ji said, "I bought 4 for resale, and I can't tell if they are fake or real, but I really want the secret one," adding, "I can only unbox one because I will gift the other 3, so see if you can guess which one is the secret. I will choose this friend," as she opened one of the 4 boxes. She continued, "Honestly, I like this purple one, and I also like the green and red ones."
After opening the box, there was the 'secret' Labubu that Lee Young-ji had wanted. Lee Young-ji was so surprised that she covered her mouth and exclaimed, "Is this real? Did I really get the secret one?" showing disbelief.
However, it was not authentic. She had fallen victim to a counterfeit scam. Upon realizing this, Lee Young-ji expressed her disappointment by saying, "They called my Labubu a fake... it was a fake Labubu... there is no ring and no KARD...".
She said, "I will buy the authentic one and open it again, everyone don't be fooled and buy the authentic one... I was so excited thinking I got the secret one on the first try."
Meanwhile, Lee Young-ji has been active in the tvN entertainment series 'Bbyeong-bbyeong Earth Arcade', which ended its Season 3 on the 4th.
