Kim Ji-woo, Kim Hi-ra, and AIKI, who are currently performing in the musical 'Frida,' appeared on Channel A's 'Best Friends Documentary Table for Four' broadcast on the 7th, delivering various behind-the-scenes stories related to the production and a surprise live stage that heated up the viewers' hearts.
Kim Ji-woo, who plays the role of Frida in the musical 'Frida,' invited fellow actors Kim Hi-ra and AIKI, who are active in the same production, stating that they are 'closer than family' and expressed their affection for each other. Kim Ji-woo treated Kim Hi-ra and AIKI to traditional Mexican food from the background of the production, while they humorously commented that 'they often hear rumors about (Kim Ji-woo) being quite generous to the actresses she performs with, so it is said that she has considerable wealth.'
Kim Ji-woo said, 'This year marks my 20th year as a musical actor. I had a hard time when I first debuted on stage after primarily working in film and drama, but by constantly striving in all areas related to the production, such as singing, acting, and choreography, I have made it to where I am now.' Kim Hi-ra noted, 'During the time when I kept failing auditions, I was always worried, but by chance, I bumped into the director on the street, who encouraged me to audition for the next production. That audition became a good opportunity, allowing me to engage in various fields thereafter.'
In particular, dancer AIKI revealed, 'My ultimate goal has always been to create works based on dance. Then, by chance, I was able to join the musical 'Frida,' and even before rehearsals started, I was taking vocal lessons from the actress Kim So-hyang, who plays Frida, to ensure I could deliver the best performance to the audience.'
Additionally, AIKI showcased her transformation into a musical actor by performing a surprise live rendition of the number 'Hummingbird,' in which Diego Rivera seduces Frida in the musical 'Frida.' Kim Ji-woo and Kim Hi-ra also performed the choreography for the number 'Viva la vida,' which introduces Frida's life, heightening expectations for the production.
Meanwhile, the musical 'Frida,' starring Kim Ji-woo, Kim Hi-ra, and AIKI, is a showcase that presents the last life of 'Frida Kahlo,' who lived in pain throughout her life following an unexpected accident, yet transcended this through art and did not lose her joy of life. It captures the last moments of the passionate artist Frida Kahlo, who boldly faced darkness, conveying a message of passion for life and healing discovered through pain, encapsulated in her words, 'VIVA LA VIDA!'
Having achieved an impressive 94% audience occupancy during its premiere in 2022, the musical proved its artistic quality and commercial viability, receiving praise from both the media and critics, and it continued to garner popularity and attention in its 2023 re-run. Particularly, the well-recognized musical 'Frida' was invited last September to perform at the Bing Theatre (BIT) as part of the 'USC Visions & Voices' program at the University of Southern California, showcasing the strength of Korean original musicals.
The musical 'Frida' will be performed at the NOL Uniplex Hall 1 in Daehangno until September 7.
