In 'Low Life,' Jung Yun-ho mentioned the acting guidance of senior actor Ryu Seung-ryong.
Disney+ held a production presentation for the new original series 'Low Life' (written by Kang Yoon-sung and Ahn Seong-hwa, directed by Kang Yoon-sung, abbreviated as 'Low') on the morning of the 8th at the Conrad Hotel located in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by main cast members Ryu Seung-ryong, Yang Se-jong, Lim Soo-jung, Kim Ui-sung, Kim Sung-oh, Kim Jong-soo, Lee Dong-hwi, Jung Yun-ho (Yunho), Lee Sang-jin, and Kim Min, who discussed the work with director Kang Yoon-sung under the moderation of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim.
'Low Life' is a drama depicting the deceptive tales of hardworking villagers who gather to seize a sunken treasure ship in the sea in 1977. Based on the webtoon 'Low' by writer Yoon Tae-ho, known for works such as 'Misaeng,' 'The Inside Men,' 'Moss,' and 'Incheon Landing Operation,' the drama is directed by Kang Yoon-sung, acclaimed for the movie 'The Outlaws' and the Disney+ original 'Casino,' creating high expectations as it brings together Ryu Seung-ryong, a key figure in the hit Disney+ original series 'Moving.'
With a total of 10 actors attending the production presentation, 'Low Life' showcases a dazzling array of characters. They are expected to display chemistry as teams from Seoul, Mokpo, and Busan within the narrative.
First, the 'Seoul' team consists of six members: Oh Kwan-seok (Ryu Seung-ryong), who leads the plot with a determination for a 'big score'; his nephew Oh Hee-dong (Yang Se-jong); Yang Jeong-suk (Lim Soo-jung), the owner of Heungbaek Industry, who holds the funding; Im Jeon-chul (Kim Sung-oh), the driver for the chairman; President Song (Kim Jong-soo), an antique appraiser; and Na Dae-sik (Lee Sang-jin), who joins at Song's recommendation. They will be referred to as 'the one who holds the money' and are expected to lead the narrative of 'Low Life.'
The Mokpo team includes the principled Mokpo Police officer Hong Ki (Lee Dong-hwi), the ambitious Baek-gu (Jung Yun-ho), the 다방 (tearoom) employee Sun-ja (Kim Min), as well as Baek-gu (Jung Yun-ho), the veteran captain Hwang (Hong Gi-jun), ceramic expert Ha Young-soo (Woo Hyun), representative gambler Go Seok-bae (Lim Hyung-jun), and the person who knows the treasure's location, Lee Bok-geun (Kim Jin-wook). Set against the backdrop of the port city of Mokpo, they unite as 'the one who holds the sea' and become intricately involved with the treasure ship buried off the coast of Sinan.
The last Busan team consists of five members, led by Professor Kim (Kim Ui-sung), along with Coach (Won Hyun-jun), Jeok-san (Kwon Dong-ho), Skeleton (Lee Geun-wook), and Ashtray (Shin Chang-joo). They are also aiming for a big score, and conman Professor Kim, who crossed over to Sinan with his subordinates, is expected to create tension and conflict along with 'the one who holds the gun.'
Among them, Jung Yun-ho, the leader of the idol group Dongbang, performs as an actor rather than as Yunho. Hailing from Gwangju, he showcases his hometown dialect as a Mokpo thug, Baek-gu. Jung Yun-ho noted, "Lee Dong-hwi's Hong Ki is my cousin, and as a hot-tempered Mokpo thug, he's a neighborhood troublemaker. He aligns with Professor Kim upon hearing unfolding stories, but it's not just his troublemaker side that will appear. Please look forward to seeing various aspects of my character."
He also stated, "Baek-gu was a different character from me. It’s true I felt a psychological burden, but linguistically, I went back to Mokpo after a long time and showed points like fashion with the director, and the character relationships were appealing, so I received a lot of help."
In particular, he added, "Personally, Ryu Seung-ryong’s words empowered me. He said, 'Yun-ho, this is no joke, come prepared.' The lessons were no joke from the start. I shot safely and enjoyably. Ryu Seung-ryong’s support brought me to life. There were unseen lessons."
'Low Life' will premiere its first three episodes on the 16th and will meet viewers weekly on Wednesdays with two episodes each for a total of 11 episodes.
