"My childbirth, my choice" reflects how actress Lee Si-young and broadcaster Sa Yoo-ri have chosen to become 'moms' in their own ways.
On the 8th, Lee Si-young's agency, Ace Factory, confirmed to OSEN that "it is true that Lee Si-young is recently pregnant. This is her second child with her ex-husband." They added, "As it concerns personal matters, detailed information is difficult to provide," but Lee Si-young herself has clarified her position through social media, garnering attention.
Lee Si-young explained, "I am currently pregnant," saying, "I did not want to repeat the regrets I had when I embraced Jung-yoon, and since this was my last chance, I decided to transplant the frozen embryos instead of discarding them. Although the other party did not agree, I will bear that weight entirely."
During her marriage, Lee Si-young stored embryos created through in vitro fertilization. After her divorce, facing the expiration of the embryo storage period, she chose to undergo the transplant alone. Legally, it required a greater decision because it was made without her ex-husband's consent after all relationships were settled, but she emphasized her 'responsibility as a mom' saying, "I will live diligently so that my child lacks nothing."
There is another woman who chose a child 'alone' but 'confidently.' In 2020, broadcaster Sa Yoo-ri also drew attention by giving birth to her son, Zen, through a sperm bank.
At that time, Sa Yoo-ri revealed on YouTube, "I stopped having my period at 41 and was diagnosed with a uterine age of 48," adding, "It was difficult to meet someone and fall in love right away, and I wanted to have a child, so I decided to become a single mom through a Japanese sperm bank."
She also stated, "While giving birth with a loving partner is the best, the urgency of my limited time made a significant impact. I think having a child is a woman's right. I am not claiming that everyone should make the same choice as me. However, this is my life, my choice."
Lee Si-young and Sa Yoo-ri stand on the same path in that they both chose, "I decided to become a mom." They assert that it was 'love' instead of 'marriage' and 'responsibility' instead of 'family' that made them moms. Furthermore, they quietly but firmly prove that such choices do not need anyone's permission.
