An expert who predicted the success of BTS will appear on the 10th-anniversary special of tvN STORY's 'How Did We Get Here' (planned by Jeong Min-sik, directed by Seong Jeong-eun). The program will feature its first-ever couple lecture show.
On today (8th, Tue) at 8:20 p.m., the second episode of the 10th-anniversary special of 'How Did We Get Here' will feature couple sociologists, Professor Sam Richards and Professor Lori Malvey, who love Korea more than Koreans do. They have proven their love for Korea, from being ambassador of Kimchi to predicting the success of BTS. Sam Richards, who views society from a sociological perspective, and Lori Malvey, who focuses on relationships through psychological thinking, plan to discuss 'the reasons we keep seeking Korea' and share stories about Korea that only Koreans might not know.
Professors Sam Richards and Lori Malvey emphasize that marriage is a small society, drawing attention. They highlight that both marriage and society are formed and maintained based on relationships. Mentioning the importance of building relationships, they said, 'There can be no true relationship without conflict,' and they will introduce special relationship maintenance tips that sociologist couples use to resolve their conflicts, generating empathy.
They continue the discussion on the unique community consciousness of Korea that values relationships. They explain, with engaging examples, the concept of community consciousness, the background of how it has deeply ingrained itself in the lives of Koreans, and comparisons with the individualistic tendencies of American society, immersing the audience.
In addition, they will touch on major issues and social problems facing Korean society, such as the culture of ‘nunchi’ unique to Korea, excessive education, and intense competition, as well as the disillusionment and anxiety felt by the younger generation, along with intergenerational conflicts. Stories about the confusion they faced due to Korea's ‘nunchi’ culture, and anecdotes about the existing ‘kkondae’ culture in the U.S. brought laughter from the audience. Curiosity was sparked regarding the future of Korea, which is facing a potential crisis, particularly about their true feelings when foreigners ask, 'Do you like kimchi?'.
Meanwhile, comedian Hwang Je-sung, actress Han Seung-yeon, and KAIST alumnus Heo Seong-beom will serve as panelists. They discussed Korea's unique culture and enriched the lecture by asking numerous questions.
'How Did We Get Here' is a special lecture show that presents lectures on various fields such as history, literature, science, and art, providing diverse knowledge and insights to viewers who are 'unexpectedly becoming adults.' The 10th-anniversary special of tvN STORY's 'How Did We Get Here' airs every Tuesday at 8:20 p.m.
