Actress Won Jina challenges herself with her first action genre through 'The Defects.'
Scheduled to air for the first time on the 21st at 10 p.m., the new ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects' (written by Ahn So-jung, directed by Oh Gi-hwan, produced by Group Eight and Take One Studio) is an action thriller that portrays the desperate survival and revenge of children who narrowly escaped death after being abandoned by their adoptive parents.
In the drama, Won Jina plays Kim Ah-hyun, who was returned after being adopted but dramatically survived. Kim Ah-hyun is the leader of the surviving children and a mental support, facing unexpected truths after a desperate battle for revenge and survival. Equipped with a cold judgment and survival instincts, Kim Ah-hyun quickly assesses the situation and takes the lead in moments of crisis.
On the 8th, Won Jina candidly shared her reasons for choosing the project and her feelings about taking on the role of Kim Ah-hyun. Won Jina noted, "The story of the children in the piece, as they search for hope in life as humans, rather than for a great cost or purpose, resonated with me. I had a dream of working in the action genre, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to work on a great project with wonderful actors, making it particularly meaningful."
Won Jina described the character of 'Kim Ah-hyun,' the leader of the surviving children, saying, "Ah-hyun is a strong character who, having been abandoned by her parents as a child, puts her life on the line to lead a free life with her siblings who have become family for the same reason." She added, "Since this is my first challenge in the action genre, it was important not only to focus on the character but also on coordinating the action sequences. The special experience of sweating together with the other actors and trusting each other while performing will remain memorable."
She identified three keywords that best express the character of Kim Ah-hyun: "responsibility," "perseverance," and "bravery." Explaining her choices, she said, "I think the responsibility to protect her younger siblings, the perseverance not to give up in any difficult situation, and the determination to find them no matter how big and terrifying the opponent may be are all brave qualities that reflect her character."
Won Jina also spoke about the chemistry with her fellow actors, saying, "It was wonderful. The actors I worked with quickly became close, as if we had known each other for a long time, and we were always together on set." She added, "Especially, Yum Jung-ah was like a supportive older sister, taking care of us, worrying about us, and treating us to delicious food. I think the set, when we weren't acting, was always filled with people and laughter, making it a place I will remember for a long time."
Finally, Won Jina expressed her excitement for herself and the other actors, stating, "I believe that not just me, but the other actors will also be able to show a different side than before. I hope everyone can overcome the hot summer with our drama and a cool fan breeze, spending a fiery and passionate summer. I ask for a lot of interest and anticipation."
The new ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'The Defects' will air for the first time on Monday, the 21st, at 10 p.m. and will also be available exclusively on TVING.
