'The Great Escape: The Story' producer directly revealed spoilers.
On the 8th, the team behind the TVING original entertainment program 'The Great Escape: The Story' shared the impressions of producer Lee Woo-hyung ahead of its first release.
'The Great Escape: The Story' is a new installment in the 'The Great Escape' series, first released in 2018, featuring a different scale, intricate world-building, and a compelling story alongside new participants. After receiving much love until Season 4 in 2021, it has returned after four years with a new producer.
Since the pre-release of episode 0 on the 2nd, it has garnered a heated response. Immediately after its release, it reached 4th place in the YouTube trending videos and surpassed 1 million views, while numerous comments regarding the chemistry between the new members and the original members flooded various communities, demonstrating explosive popularity for the new season.
From the beginning, Lee Woo-hyung, the new head of 'The Great Escape: The Story,' noted, 'I am grateful for the interest from many people before we started, but I also feel a lot of pressure. I know it wasn't easy to find a director for a program with such dedicated fans.' He expressed his affection for the program, saying, 'I was worried that the series I loved so much might lose its legacy if things continued as they were, so I finally gathered the courage to step in myself.'
Regarding the fact that this season is not named 'The Great Escape 5,' he stated, 'It is a setting to show the transformation towards OTT.' He added, 'The subtitles 'The Story' carry the meaning of 'one story within a larger framework' that we wanted to include in this season. You will feel the synergy when the format of The Great Escape meets the story this season.'
In particular, this season is generating buzz with the combination of original members Kang Ho-dong, Kim Dong-hyun, Yoo Byung-jae, and new members Ko Kyung-pyo, Baekhyun, and Yeojin-gu. In relation to this, producer Lee Woo-hyung remarked, 'While filming, I definitely felt that the experience and focus of the original members are different. The level of immersion was truly exceptional.' He revealed a behind-the-scenes insight, saying, 'Senior Kang Ho-dong became so engrossed that he shed tears and it became difficult to proceed.'
Regarding the newly joined members, he mentioned, 'The most important criterion for recruiting new members was 'immersion,' and fortunately, all three showed wonderful performances in their respective areas.' He further added, 'There were members who solved quests just as well as Yoo Byung-jae, and there were also those who exhibited leadership qualities more than anyone else. As time went on, some revealed plot twists, making each person's unique characteristics stand out, and I am confident that this season possesses a charm of its own.'
He also hinted at exclusive viewing points for 'The Great Escape: The Story.' He stated, 'Since 'The Great Escape' is a program that has already gone through four seasons, there was a kind of bank of what themes viewers enjoyed, like past exam questions. Based on this, I researched elements that could enhance the viewing experience, and as a result, it led us to the genre of 'suspense adventure.' It is likely to become an overarching mood throughout the season.'
