Kim Ji-woo confessed that she struggled with criticism after transitioning to a musical actress.
The episode featuring musical actress Kim Ji-woo aired on Channel A’s "Best Friend Documentary – 4-Person Table" on the 7th.
Kim Ji-woo invited her close friends, actress Kim Hee-ra and dancer AIKI, to enjoy a 'Mexican dish' prepared using her husband Raymond Kim's recipe. Kim Ji-woo stated, "Initially, I wanted to cook for them. Coincidentally, the topic of '4-Person Table' came up," explaining why she invited AIKI and Kim Hee-ra, who she had grown closer with through musicals.
Kim Ji-woo remarked, "I caught the flu and couldn’t make it to the practice room. If I don’t go to practice, I can only fall behind. I received a call from Kim Hee-ra who had taken a video of the director's notes and sent it to me. She said, 'You don't have to reply since you are sick.' I was very grateful; such gestures are truly not easy. I thought to myself, 'I am lucky with people.'" praising Kim Hee-ra.
Kim Ji-woo made her debut through a school uniform commercial. She noted, "I had a great time as the film 'Same Age Tutors' became successful. At some point, I found myself without a place in the industry. Many of my contemporaries who acted were from modeling backgrounds, such as Kim Min-hee, Kim Hyo-jin, and Gong Hyo-jin. They are tall and slender. Whenever I went for auditions, I often heard 'you're chubby' or 'you're in between' (these comments). By the time I was around 23 or 24, work began to dwindle."
Kim Ji-woo said she got cast in a musical she happened to see and thus transitioned into becoming a musical actress. She remarked, "When I first entered the musical industry, I received a lot of criticism. I faced a lot of backlash during casting and at the start of performances. Comments like 'Does musical seem easy?' and 'It seems like my skills are not up to par' made me feel quite intimidated. At some point, the audience's gaze felt terrifying."
To overcome criticism, Kim Ji-woo showed consistent effort by taking singing lessons and acting practice. Now, 20 years later, Kim Ji-woo said, "I always get so nervous before auditions. As the number of作品 increases, I find that I know more directors. It's even harder when performing in front of people I know," expressing that she still acts under tension.
