The death of the promising comedienne Lee Ji-soo still brings a sense of heaviness even after two years.
Lee Ji-soo passed away in July 2023 at the age of 30. The funeral service was held on the 13th of that month, where she was laid to rest amid the farewell of her loving family and acquaintances.
The deceased was found dead in her studio apartment in Mangwon-dong, Mapo District, Seoul. According to her family, Lee Ji-soo had been hospitalized with high fever symptoms before her death. Her older sister, a person surnamed Lee, told OSEN, “She had no chronic illness, but after being diagnosed with pyelonephritis, she was hospitalized and lost contact days after being discharged.” She added, “After worrying, our parents searched her home with the police and received the unfortunate news.”
An autopsy was also conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. The family stated, “No external injuries were found,” and added, “It seems something happened while she was sleeping after taking medication between four to five days.”
Lee Ji-soo was a comedienne from the Yun Hyung-bin Theater and made her formal debut in 2021 through tvN's ‘Comedy Big League.’ She gained recognition for her unique performances in roles such as the character Pina in ‘Odongnamu Entertainment,’ ‘Comedy Big League Entertainment,’ ‘Jumadeung,’ ‘My Business Journal,’ and ‘Misfit Woman Fighter.’
In particular, she had recently joined a new KBS comedy program as a crew member and was about to make her terrestrial debut. As she had been dedicated to brainstorming and practicing ideas with her colleagues, the sudden news of her passing created a deeper sense of regret.
The production team of ‘Comedy Big League’ expressed their condolences, stating, “We will not forget your passion for laughter. We pray for the peace of the deceased.” Online, fans and colleagues also joined in expressing their respects, writing, “We offer our condolences” and “May you laugh a lot in heaven.”
Lee Ji-soo, who fiercely pursued laughter for the world. Though her life was short, her performances will be remembered among her colleagues and fans for a long time.
