SHINee's Taemin apologized for comments related to the prediction of an earthquake in Japan.
On the 6th, Taemin said on his social media account story, "I apologize for speaking recklessly about the earthquake in an effort to reassure concerned fans. I realize that I did not sufficiently consider the situation of those in the area or the risks of natural disasters and spoke lightly."
He added, "I was also very worried, and I am grateful that it passed without major damage. I will be more careful in my thoughts and comments moving forward. Thank you."
Earlier, while conducting a live session on his social media account, Taemin mentioned the earthquake prediction in Japan. He said, "You don’t have to worry too much because that prediction indicates we are still safe."
The prophecy in question originated from a rumor about a major earthquake that began with a famous Japanese manga artist. Japanese manga artist Ryo Tatsuki predicted in his 1999 publication "The Future I Saw" that "a cataclysm will occur on July 5, 2025." This manga was based on the author's own prophetic dream and gained attention for predicting the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Taemin said, "I thought about what would happen if I shook while singing 'Power N.' I imagined it. If it shook here, would it look cool? I wondered if, when the dancing intensified, it would truly shake like 3D, and what if it were shaking with fireworks going off and fire coming out?"
Following those comments, Taemin faced criticism for appearing to mention the disaster situation somewhat recklessly. Ultimately, he bent his head, saying, "I realize that I did not sufficiently consider the risks of natural disasters and spoke lightly."
