Television personality Ahn Sun-young officially announced her move to Canada, stepping away from her 26-year broadcasting career. At the heart of her decision were her choices as a 'mother' and her son's dreams.
On the afternoon of the 4th, a video titled 'I, Ahn Sun-young, am leaving Korea now | Packing my carrier' was posted on her YouTube channel 'This is Ahn Sun-young.' In the video, Ahn Sun-young sat between carriers to share her decision to relocate and made a cautious confession to her fans and viewers.
She said, 'I debuted in 2000, and now I'm in my 26th year of broadcasting, my 8th year of entrepreneurship, and my 10th year as a mother. Throughout all this, broadcasting took up the most time. Although it feels like the peak of my career, I decided to boldly leave everything behind and move to Canada.'
She explained, 'Although I have long-dreamed opportunities before me, I chose to leave Korea for my son's dreams.'
The background of Ahn Sun-young's decision to relocate was her son's study abroad and his pursuit of ice hockey. She noted, 'My son works as hard in sports as if it were a way of life. He passed the test for a youth hockey team that even local kids in Canada find difficult to join' and added, 'I thought I should open up opportunities for a child like him.'
The persuasion process took a long time. 'We talked and persuaded for over a year. Ice hockey is possible in Korea, but I told him that quitting broadcasting could mean I wouldn't get another chance,' she said, adding, 'But when my son said, 'This is my dream. If I can't go with you, I'll at least stay with a host family,' I made up my mind,' evoking emotion.
Meanwhile, Ahn Sun-young married a businessman three years younger than her in 2013 and has a son. Established as a first-generation show host in the domestic home shopping industry, she has built a successful career, being referred to as 'the woman who sold the most cosmetics in Korea, with cumulative sales of 1 trillion won.'
Many are focusing on Ahn Sun-young's courageous decision to choose her son's dreams over everything.
