They chased down the criminals who brutally murdered victims until they handcuffed them.
In the 4th episode of 'Brave Cops 4' aired on the 4th, the strong team leader of Incheon Yeonsu Police Station, Chief Inspector Park Gi-hoon, and former Senior Commissioner Yoon Wae-chul from the scientific investigation unit (KCSI) and Chief Inspector Kim Jin-soo participated and presented their investigation logs on cases they personally resolved.
The first case began with a report from a restaurant owner in a food alley who suspected a foul smell from a box that had been sitting next to the store for several days. Inside the box, wrapped in blue tape, were a sack of rice and two bundles of blankets, from which a leg severed at the thigh and pieces of flesh that appeared to have been detached from the leg were discovered. The police, assuming the victim was a small-statured woman, identified her by comparing the national missing persons list and evidence from the scene. She was a car salesperson in her late 30s who had gone missing after leaving to sign a contract.
As a result of inquiries, the police confirmed that the victim had entered the restaurant alley with a man, and a suspect flyer, including a composite sketch, was distributed. In particular, the victim received four calls from a payphone, but since the calling locations were all different, they divided the areas for inquiries. Thirteen days after the incident, another sack of rice containing the torso was found in a redevelopment area. All the organs had been removed, and DNA analysis confirmed it was the same victim.
During the investigation, detectives discovered a box identical to the one found at the scene in a single room in a cramped housing area, and blood stains had also seeped into the flooring beneath a torn wallpaper. This room had been occupied by a woman in her 20s who was imprisoned, and her boyfriend, Mr. Kang (pseudonym), who frequently visited her, was revealed to be the perpetrator. Mr. Kang, who was arrested while under the influence of hallucinogens, initially denied the crime but ultimately confessed in front of the blood evidence. He initially claimed he intended to commit only theft, but when he was caught stealing the victim's money, he grabbed a kitchen knife, and, considering the body heavy, he dismembered it into nine pieces and disposed of it using the subway and bus, shocking everyone. He argued he was under the influence of drugs and in a state of diminished responsibility, but this was not accepted, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The second case introduced by KCSI began when a black plastic bag containing a body was discovered in a river. The body, initially suspected to be that of a child by a construction worker working on levee repairs, was later identified as a woman in her mid-20s of small stature upon autopsy. The victim had been torn from below the chest to the navel, and numerous deep cuts were found on the thighs and back of the knees, all appearing to be postmortem mutilations.
Judging by the condition of the body tightly wrapped in three layers of plastic bags, it appeared that the decaying corpse had been placed inside the bags for disposal. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation due to blunt force trauma, with an estimated death period of more than six months. The female victim was living with a common-law partner and had young children, and on the day before she was reported missing, there had been a domestic violence report filed as she had sustained a head injury. The child's father had hit her on the head with a receiver while she was on the phone at the payphone, prompting her to go to the police station. According to an aunt living nearby, her nephew suspected infidelity and had witnessed a young man who came to pick her up. This was her new boyfriend, but it was later confirmed he was in prison, and there were records of the victim visiting him. The boyfriend stated that the victim suffered severe abuse from the child's father and sought help, which led her to meet him.
Most importantly, before the victim was found as a corpse, the child's father was reported to have had a strange smell he had never experienced before from the victim's mother when he came to visit. When he went to her house, the smell of decaying flesh was overwhelming even before the front door was opened. The veranda also showed traces of blood and signs of storing the corpse. He confessed that he was angry and killed her when the victim said to him, 'I will never come back,' and that he wanted to keep her close, not disposing of the body for four months. He also said that every time it became cumbersome as the body decayed, he picked up a knife. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
