Comedian Jo Geom-san, who passed away, has reached the 8th anniversary of his death.
Jo Geom-san left this world on July 5th, 2017, at the age of 54.
At the time of his death, Jo Geom-san was found dead in a vehicle parked in a location on Lend Island in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. The lack of a suicide note at the time of discovery added to the sadness surrounding his passing.
Jo Geom-san debuted as a comedian in 1984 as part of the KBS public announcement 2nd class. He was especially active in public comedy skits, including 'Humor No. 1'. He became well-loved for his catchphrase, "Oh, Mr. Kim, it’s really nice to see you again!"
Jo Geom-san's catchphrases were later quoted in dramas. In the tvN drama 'Reply 1988', when the female lead Deok-seon (Lee Hye-ri) and Kim Sung-kyun encountered each other, they greeted each other with Jo Geom-san's catchphrase. At that time, Jo Geom-san's catchphrases had gained nationwide popularity, making the scenario feel natural.
Thanks to this, the deceased ventured into various fields, not only in comedic acting during his lifetime. In 2002, he moved to Los Angeles, USA, where he also worked as a shopping channel host. After returning to Korea in 2010, he performed in musicals and television programs. He notably drew attention as a guest on the SBS entertainment show 'Sigh'.
Therefore, the sudden news of Jo Geom-san's passing evoked even greater sorrow. Members of the idol group U-KISS, who collaborated with him in musicals, expressed their grief by stating, "We will not forget Teacher Jo Geom-san."
