"I even ran an affair cafe... I couldn't have endured it if I hadn't changed my name": Bang Hyun-sook openly confessed to the numerous failures in her business, having failed more than 10 times.
Comedian Bang Hyun-sook openly shared the reasons for her numerous failures in life and the choice of 'name change' at the end.
On the 3rd, during the MBC variety show 'Save Me! Homes,' Bang Hyun-sook appeared as a guest and shocked everyone by revealing stories about her businesses that had failed more than 10 times, her name change story, and anecdotes about operating an 'affair cafe.'
That day, MC Park Na-rae expressed her curiosity, saying, "When I searched Bang Hyun-sook's name, another name 'Bang Soo-hee' came up," and Bang Hyun-sook began her story by saying, "It wasn’t marriage; I had failed in restaurant businesses more than 10 times."
Bang Hyun-sook candidly confessed, "I got married at 24 and had not left any business untried, including a pottery shop, clothing store, restaurant, and cafe in Gangnam. I even ran an affair cafe." She added with a laugh, "Actually, it was a 'family restaurant,' but perhaps because it was located deep in Yangpyeong in the mountains, many couples came secretly. Later, it became rumored as an 'affair cafe.'"
Bang Hyun-sook mentioned, "I bought land and opened a cafe named 'Flowering Mountain Valley.' Just the cost of flowers was equivalent to the price of an APT.." She went on, "Choi Yang-rak was always drunk and sitting in the rocking chair in the yard. However, the real couple would order just one refill coffee, while the affair couple would order the most expensive menu items first. When getting out of the car, the man would get out first and open the car door for the woman, making it obvious."
During those challenging times, someone suggested 'name change' to Bang Hyun-sook. She explained, "I changed my name because nothing was working out. My current name is 'Bang Soo-hee.' It contains the meaning 'may there be many happy events.' It has already been over 20 years since my name change, and the legal change has been about 15 years."
She stated, "After that, strangely, my life began to improve little by little. My business became stable, and I started my studies again; I am currently in a doctoral program. I graduated with an A+ in my master's last year." However, explaining why she still uses the name 'Bang Hyun-sook' for broadcast activities, she humorously noted, "If the broadcasting company calls me 'Bang Soo-hee,' no one recognizes me."
While candidly discussing her past failures, Bang Hyun-sook entertained with her unique charm and energy. As she said, "We came with empty hands, so everything we gain in life is a bonus," her life of overcoming setbacks resonated deeply with the audience.
