On 'My Precious Child,' a first-grade child displayed symptoms of obsession with numbers and cleanliness.
On 4th, Channel A's 'Recent Parenting - My Precious Child' featured the story of 'a first-grade son suffering from obsession with getting 100 points.'
On that day, the studio featured a mother with a first-grade son and a five-year-old daughter, along with the grandmother. The mother of the child expressed her concerns, saying, 'The eldest son shows violent behavior and is trying to be overly perfect in his learning.' In the following video, the child began to throw a tantrum after losing multiple rounds in a family game. The child exclaimed, 'I’m the only one who didn’t score,' and cried out, 'I need to keep playing until I win.'
Later, while studying abacus with his mother, the child shouted, 'Why did I get it wrong?' after getting his first answer wrong, and then said, 'I should have gotten 100 points. I’m done with abacus now,' as he suddenly stormed out.
Even though he only got one question wrong during the grading, the child was upset, saying, 'I’m 100 points. It has to be 100 points,' and insisted that the incorrect answer be completely erased. Eventually, while his mother carefully erased it with an eraser, the child insisted, 'Make sure it’s erased more carefully.'
Eventually, he proclaimed, 'I have to get 100 points,' and slammed the door as he went in. Psychologist Oh Eun-young observed, 'It seems that the child is afraid of failing or making mistakes. In such situations, he always gets angry,' adding, 'The most important point is that he has a particularly weak inner strength when dealing with failure. So even when confronted with failure, he tends to give up or avoid it.'
'He needs to be exposed to a variety of new things and grow, but he avoids challenges due to the fear of failing beforehand. That’s the biggest problem,' she added.
The child showed an obsession with the number '10' following his fixation on getting 100 points. Not only in studies but also in everyday life, everything had to add up to 10. Psychologist Oh Eun-young stated, 'He is trying to reach an ending. It's an obsession with numbers. The obsession is a kind of anxiety.' She continued, 'He feels the need to make this complete, but since it's somewhat not anxious, for this child, 10 seems to be the number that completely fills his heart. It seems he set this for himself in his own way.'
In particular, that day, the child caught attention by cleaning the toilet with toilet paper before relieving himself. While he was cleaning the toilet and eventually using it, he seemed anxious, constantly shifting in his seat.
After finishing, he suddenly began to spit, shocking everyone. His mother mentioned, 'The spitting behavior has also recently appeared. He even spits outside,' to which Shin Ae-ra asked, 'Is this also a cleanliness obsession?' and psychologist Oh Eun-young replied, 'There is a compulsive aspect to it.'
The child has an obsession not only with numbers but also with cleanliness. Most notably, regarding the spitting, psychologist Oh Eun-young explained, 'He feels he must end any situation according to his own compulsive criteria to feel comfortable. Even though urination and defecation are his own, he considers them dirty. By confirming the act of spitting as part of his relieving process, he aims to conclude everything cleanly.'
'At first glance, it seems odd, but if this continues, he will create his own routine. For example, he might insist on cleaning three times,' she said, to which the mother agreed, saying, 'Right. If the number of times increases, it could be a big problem.'
