YG Entertainment and the group BLACKPINK are collaborating on efforts for sustainable performances through the 'DEADLINE' tour.
YG Entertainment announced on the 4th that prior to the commencement of the 'BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR 'DEADLINE'', they have signed a purchase agreement for Peace Renewable Energy Certificates (P-REC) with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
P-REC is an international certification for renewable energy produced in conflict zones. YG and BLACKPINK will offset some of the electricity consumption from the 'DEADLINE' tour through the purchase of P-REC. The entire purchase amount will be reinvested in South Sudan, where the power was generated, and will be used for humanitarian support and reconstruction of higher education institutions in need of peace due to civil war.
The purchase of P-REC by YG and BLACKPINK, which is also the first transaction of its kind in the country, contributes positively to improving energy accessibility and job creation in the region, going beyond simple renewable energy purchasing certification. Given the immense love from music fans worldwide, this demonstrates their efforts to give back and fulfill their social responsibilities.
Additionally, YG Entertainment will showcase the environmentally friendly paper-packaged water 'BLACKPINK WATER' at the 'DEADLINE' performances in Goyang on the 5th and 6th. To promote recycling of the paper packs, dedicated collection boxes will be installed, and booths will be operated to raise awareness about waste separation and resource recycling. Custom recycling collection boxes that evoke BLACKPINK will be offered as reward items, and a portion of the sales revenue will be donated to resource circulation-related activities.
Here, the 'YOUR GREEN STEP' booth, which allows audiences to directly participate in the excitement of the concert and environmental responsibility while consistently measuring their carbon footprint since its debut in 2023, and a booth from the British Embassy that will retrace meaningful efforts for climate change response that BLACKPINK has been involved in with the embassy since 2020, are expected to receive positive responses.
YG Entertainment emphasizes the implementation of the 'seven principles of sustainable performances' through its first 'Sustainable Performance Report', published as the first domestic entertainment company in 2024. These principles include: ▲ Greenhouse gas management ▲ Improving performance accessibility ▲ Fan engagement ▲ Enhancing content impact ▲ Venue safety management ▲ Reducing venue environmental pollution ▲ Governance for sustainable performances, based on which they are advancing social and environmental efforts in the performances of their associated artists.
