YouTube mukbang pioneer Banzz (real name Jeong Man-su), who lost a martial arts match against Yun Hyung-bin, announced that he would keep his promise to delete his YouTube channel. On the 29th, Banzz posted on his social media, "I will keep my promise. I will upload my final video tomorrow." This declaration stems from the result of the martial arts event match held at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on the 28th.
In that match, Banzz lost to Yun Hyung-bin by TKO after 1 minute and 42 seconds into the first round. The two had placed a condition before the match that "the loser would delete their YouTube channel," and the loser was Banzz.
The winner, Yun Hyung-bin, jokingly said after the match, "Deleting the channel seems a bit excessive. I will post my videos on Banzz's channel in the future" to lighten the mood, but Banzz expressed his determination to fulfill his promise and hinted at his final video.
Banzz has been operating his YouTube channel since 2013 and has 2.05 million subscribers. Despite being a big eater, he gained attention for his neat table manners and tidy mukbang content, establishing himself as a representative figure leading the mukbang YouTuber craze.
At one time, he boasted as many as 3.2 million subscribers. However, in 2020, he was indicted for allegedly misleadingly advertising that food sold by a health supplement company he represented was particularly effective for dieting, receiving a fine of 5 million won in the first trial. Both the prosecution and Banzz's side appealed the ruling, but their claims were dismissed in the appeals court.
In this regard, Banzz expressed his frustration, saying, "The prosecution sought a sentence, but I still claim my innocence." However, after his guilt was confirmed, he stated, "I should have been more cautious in conducting my business, but I couldn't do that. It was a significant mistake with no room for excuses," and released an apology video.
As a result of this incident, many subscribers left. Despite this, over 2 million fans continued to support him, and Banzz continued to engage in mukbang and martial arts content. His declaration to delete his channel has drawn attention. There is significant interest in whether he can let go of his connection with his subscribers and the revenue-generating content.
