Director Pil Gam-seong of "My Daughter is a Zombie" revealed the reason for casting Jo Jung-seok.
The production briefing session for the movie "My Daughter is a Zombie" was held on the morning of the 30th at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul, with director Pil Gam-seong and actors Jo Jung-seok, Lee Jung-eun, Jo Yeo-jeong, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Choi Yu-ri attending to discuss the film.
"My Daughter is a Zombie" is a comedic drama based on the webtoon of the same name, featuring a doting father who enters a secret training program to protect his daughter, now the last remaining zombie in the world. Jo Jung-seok, Lee Jung-eun, Jo Yeo-jeong, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Choi Yu-ri promise a perfect chemistry with a high synchronization rate with the original characters, providing audiences with abundant entertainment through their performances that blur the lines between comedy and drama.
In particular, Director Pil Gam-seong has previously showcased his remarkable direction in "Hostage" and "The Day of the Accident." This is his first challenge in a comedy project. Jo Jung-seok, known for his successful string of summer hits, is featured as the protagonist.
Jo Jung-seok said, "Since it's being released in summer, I think there might be some luck involved for me in the way that it's rare for a film to be released in summer. Personally, I'm grateful for that. 'Exit' and 'Pilot' were great works, and now I'm able to present 'My Daughter is a Zombie.' I hope it goes well this time too," adding, "Everything fell into place with the production company and distribution company. I hope it does well."
The film features Lee Jeong-hwan (played by Jo Jung-seok), a doting father and a beast trainer, who tries to live alongside his daughter, now a zombie, whom he perceives as a beast, while training her. Jo Jung-seok's struggles are expected to bring laughter.
Director Pil Gam-seong shared, "I am actually a long-time fan of Jo Jung-seok. I was completely taken in when I saw his musical in the early 2000s. I have always been a fan, and while working on this project, I crafted the script with actor Jo Jung-seok in mind. I put heartfelt feelings into it, and who could deliver both genuinely funny scenes and heart-wrenchingly painful ones if not him? My first pick was actor Jo Jung-seok. I presented the script with a heartfelt wish, and he graciously accepted, which I was very grateful for."
Jo Jung-seok stated, "As those who know me will realize, 'My Daughter is a Zombie' is a popular webtoon, but I received the script without having seen the original. It was so enjoyable that I found it difficult to control my emotions while reading it," and he humorously added that his daughter, who is a doting father, "scratched her nose while playing and did well with concealer." Yoon Kyung-ho teased him, saying, "It's because you're a 'dad fool.'"
Meanwhile, the film "My Daughter is a Zombie" is set to meet audiences in theaters nationwide on July 30.
