'Wow! Really? Is this for real?' delighted viewers with joyful laughter, empathy, and healing in a special episode titled 'Back Then, Time Travel Special.'
In the 5th episode of SBS's 'Wow! Really? Is This for Real?' aired on the 26th, a special featuring 90s emotions was presented, including segments titled 'Why is Vice Administrator Ko like this?', 'I wear Y2K every day', and 'A Diary of Aesoon'. Studio hosts Jun Hyun-moo, Baek Ji-young, Kim Ho-young, and Subin, along with guest Hyun-young, were deeply empathetic towards stories related to the nostalgic 90s, and in the 'A Diary of Aesoon' segment, they were moved to tears, touching the viewers.
Jun Hyun-moo showcased his personal talent by performing SHINee's 'Lucifer' in the themed 'Back Then, Time Travel Special.' After finishing his dance performance, he jokingly said, 'Now 'Lucifer' is my song. Not long ago, I filmed the 'Lucifer' challenge with Key, and he was asking me about the moves.' Guest Hyun-young also matched her song 'Sister's Dream' with the dance moves from that time, lifting the atmosphere. Shortly after, the protagonist of 'Why is Vice Administrator Ko like this?', office worker Ko Jae-hyun, made his appearance. He surprisingly appeared in a 'Street Interview' corner that reappeared in Hongdae and perfectly recreated 90s choreography on the street, capturing everyone's attention. During an interview with the production crew, he stated, 'I have almost memorized all the 90s dances. I have counted 307 songs.' In fact, while working in an external sales position, he surprised everyone by automatically showcasing the dance moves from that era when 90s music played. However, his business associate commented, 'It’s not surprising anymore since he dances like this often,' adding to the laughter.
The production team thoroughly verified whether he had indeed memorized all 307 songs. They randomly played music, and Ko Jae-hyun flawlessly recreated all the dance moves without missing a single one. In response, the production team arranged a meeting with the original star choreographer Hong Young-joo, who remarked, 'It seems he has danced more than the dancers,' and added, 'It took Baek Ji-young three months to master one dance routine,' making a surprising revelation that caused laughter in the studio. After finishing a collaborative dance with Hong Young-joo, Ko Jae-hyun expressed his gratitude, saying, 'I was happy to dance with the legendary choreographer Hong Young-joo.'
Next, Ji Hae-yoon, the protagonist of 'I wear Y2K every day', made an appearance. She stated, 'I still enjoy the 2000s style every day' while introducing her Y2K fashion. She also revealed her room, filled with over 1,000 fashion items from that time. Ji Hae-yoon shared, 'I still watch 2000s songs and shows like 'X-Man' and 'Love Letter' while eating,' and added, 'When I was in elementary school, I was shocked by the older siblings in Y2K fashion. So after turning 20 and starting to earn money, I pierced my belly button and began collecting 2000s fashion.' Baek Ji-young, who was watching this, remarked, 'It brings back a lot of memories. I’m sure I still have those kinds of clothes somewhere at home.'
As everyone was deeply immersed in the time travel theme, the next story featured Seo Bo-myung, the protagonist of 'A Diary of Aesoon.' 'I am Seo Bo-myung, 85 years old, living in Gyeongnam Goseong-gun. I have a treasure,' he began. Bo-myung showed his diary, revealing that he had written it every day without omission since he was 23, now totaling 77 volumes. He said, 'People around me always said I would have been a writer if I had been younger (born in these times), but I never had such thoughts back then,' expressing his regrets. Baek Ji-young also noted, 'It feels like a parallel theory with Aesoon from the drama 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' lamenting.
Following this, Seo Bo-myung shared his life story, from struggling after marrying into an unfamiliar place in his early 20s to the pain of losing his eldest son to leukemia at the age of 46 in 1985. Reading from his diary from that time brought him to tears, and he revealed, 'I can only cry. I have bruises in my heart, and no matter how hard I try to forget, is there any value in that? Thank you, I love you,' expressing his deep feelings towards his late son. Later, with the help of his third son and the production team, Seo Bo-myung visited his eldest son's grave for the first time in decades, shedding heartfelt tears. The entire studio cast showed great respect for Seo Bo-myung, and when asked, 'How long will you continue writing your diary?' he replied, 'I will write until my life ends. The diary is my friend. As long as I have my health, I will keep writing,' leaving a profound impact and resonance.
